Guess who against her better judgment and health is still going to do NaNoWriMo? This woman right here.

Also on some slightly good news! Ashes is ready to be sent out. I'm going to be sending it to agents come April or May of next year to make sure all the NaNoWriMo applicants have died down.

Hey long time no talk. I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still alive and working hard on my book. I just got out of the hospital a few days ago for kidney failure. My left kidney has been trying to kill me for years.

I've also been putting more thought on actually working on something to post here so my profile doesn't look so dead, but I just can't pinpoint a plot idea at the moment.

Ciphertext

@MelissaRebhahn I dunno. Once, it was a little easier xD

Urgh, christ Dx I would GIVE you a kidney if I could (only the selling and buying of organs is illegal, it's totally fine if I just GIVE you it). I hate that you've had this problem for so long Dx

Yay! I gave one girl looking for writing prompts something similar to that once. She didn't do it T__T I want to read a story about a man trapped in a plant.

@PaigeyLou When has Wattpad format even been easy to read? I mean shit look at how we have to post stories. This site still isn't completely writer friendly. Sadly, they won't take more drastic steps with my kidney until it's functioning is compromised by a certain percent. Which makes sense as life with one kidney is a nightmare, add in all my other health issues and it doesn't look bright. So they are trying to keep the kidney going for as long as they can. Sadly, this means a lot of pain for me.
The first option you gave is actually a cute idea and one that would be easy for me to update. I actually might play around with that.

@MelissaRebhahn And just so you know, that message WAS formatted with paragraphs and stuff but clearly Wattpad doesn't care for letting people read things easily.

So like, what happened to Ashes of the Dawn? New plans?

I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN GONE A WHILE BUT I STILL LIKE TO KNOW. Where is my favourite grumpy and socially awkward old vampire? What is he up to?

Better yet, what are YOU up too? STILL sick? STOP IT. Get better.

@MelissaRebhahn Ah, I figured that's why it was, but I just wanted to make sure you weren't abducted by aliens and they stole your story (which IS entirely plausible).

Surviving is better than NOT surviving :3

Sorry it took me a life time to reply! I took Ashes down because I heard from the mouth of a literary agent it is unwise to have your manuscript floating around the internet.

I'm getting more panic attacks and less sleep, my kidney is still on the fritz, so overall I am surviving each day.

Self-publishing, opinions?

IceMaiden786

Should u do it? Shouldn't u? Self-publishing is hard hard work and not guaranteed success but it is rewarding with what success you do achieve. It requires promoting, giveaways, blog tours, having many social networks: facebook, twitter, tumblr, an active blog. I'd recommend making an author website too (wix and weebly are good choices, so is squaresource but I haven't used it personally). And be sure to set up a newsletter that people can sign up to so you always keep your fans informed. I don't know much about getting published by a publishing house, but I know that they choose the cover, if something needs to be removed or added in, altering things that I don't think you'd be willing to see changed. I know I wouldn't. So self-publishing has more freedom, it's quicker to get out there, but harder to stay out there. If your ranking is low, like mine, then it's harder for people to find you. Which is why signing up to promoters and getting reviews is important. And if you put your novel at a low price in the beginning, it should bring in some readers. 99c to $2.99 is a good area. Then if you have more books, in a series or separate, you can make them a bit more expensive so people feel inclined to get the next ones. Hope this has helped and isn't off topic ;)

so I am going to give you guys a real update. Sorry I dropped off the face of the earth again. My health has been in limbo from bad days to days I swear I am dying. I am still pissing out white blood cells because of my left kidney and because of that my immune system is compromised. Which because I have sinus problems already, I have been fighting sinus infections off on a regular basis now, as well as infections in my already in poor condition bladder.

I also just recently lost my cat, Mao. Which seems trivial I guess, but I was deeply close to her as she was given to me to keep me company as my health often leaves me stranded in my own home. So it's like I lost a limb.

And SSD revoked me again, even though I am just short of organ failure some days.

Yeah, everything is looking up, right?

When you want to comment on someones story but you are worried you are going to get, "I do this for fun, so shove off" response.

MelissaRebhahn

@PaigeyLou So true, mostly on this site.

@PaigeyLou Well this story has 60 reads and no comments, so I can't even begin to know how she would react. It sucks because my first reaction is try to be helpful.
