Happy endings are under appreciated.
I am a strong believer in intertextuality, that the story of literature, humanity, creation, and eternity are continuous. That all stories are one story. And thus, everything that we say, read, and write is but a continuation of the last book we peered over. In this case, any story we deem "unfit" or "sorrowing" to our likes, is liable for change, by just the simple creation of language in form of folklore. And it indeed may be selfish in intentions, but I write to read the happy ending that I so desire.
