Okay, I got around to watching the first season of Netflix's Devil May Cry. I do have some opinions and thoughts about it and I feel like talking about it. So spoiler warning ahead if you're still going to watch it, but I will give my opinions now.
Adi Shankar went for the route where it is an alternate Universe, a story telling from his perspective on how he imagined Devil May Cry would go. Honestly, there are some good things he kept, and some questionable decisions he made. So over all, I won't compare and just see it as an alternate Universe where things are slightly altered and different over all.
I think they wrote Dante rather well. I enjoyed him as a character, as he felt like the Dante most people would recognize, while also to some degree, nerfing him to make things easier I suppose? I don't know why they nerfed him to some capacity, but I still enjoyed the moments where he shined. Even if it was the voice actor of Nero, I still enjoyed his character development, even if his history and character is slightly altered.
Lady is a bit confusing for me to be honest. She swears a lot, and is working for a made up organization within this fictional alternate Universe. I don't hate the decision made for it, though they kept her hating Demons to be good. Her parallel path to the main villain of the season was compelling in its own rights. Since this is a different Lady, I will see what they do with her in Season 2, since they confirmed there being a second season. Just lessen the amount of swearing, and I think her character is decent.
The central antagonist throughout most of the first season, the White Rabbit. I enjoy his talk, insulting the typical American dreams, which I found hilarious since it gives that vibe. His motivations are reasonable and understandable. I think he was the best written character within the season honestly.
Over all, even if I enjoyed it, I'll give it a solid 7 out of 10. Season 2 needs more Dante scenes. That's it from me.
