Suddenly, her throat tightens, her face flushed with heat so intense that snow melts on her skin, and tears well up in her eyes.
"I’m sorry..." Maya whispers.
“Why are you apologizing?” Abhimanyu asks, his voice quiet and composed.
“That was just too cruel!” Maya gasps, hastily wiping away her tears. “You tried so hard to help them—you loved them—this is the first time I’ve wanted to hurt someone so badly!”
As Maya continues sobbing, Abhimanyu stands there, looking as godlike as ever with the snow and light casting a glow on his deep black hair and evergreen emerald eyes, his chiseled razor-sharp features, hands in the pockets of his trench coat.
“What are you looking at!?” Maya screams, sniffing hard, rubbing her eyes. “I’m crying because of you, you big jerk! Once I start crying I can’t stop even if I want to!”
After a moment,just a centimeter away from her.
“What are-“ Maya begins, intending to continue her tirade, but she pauses when she notices a soft smile playing on his lips. Almost in slow motion, he raises his hand and gently rests it on top of her head. With tender strokes, he runs his fingers through her hair, while Maya gazes at him in a mix of awe, adoration, and surprise.
“Don’t cry,” he says softly. “Crying never fixes anything.”
“I know that!” Maya exclaims, sniffing back tears. “I’m not crying because it fixes anything! I-I’m crying because... because...” She pauses, her lips parting, but words failing to form. “...because...”
