Ongoing Writers Please Read! A reminder to all who submitted ongoing stories to this years contest:

We are constantly checking to ensure that you are keeping up with the required posting cadence as judges are deciding on the shortlist!

The story needs to have received an update in at least 80% of the weeks between the date you submit the entry and the date on which the Shortlisted Entries are announced (on October 14th, 2024) or your story will be disqualified.

Thank you for all your great work and dedication! We're excited to share the shortlist on October 14th, 2024.

@TheWattys I've kept up consistently with the uploading cadence for both my stories in the Wattys. Actually, more than the 80% required uploading three to four chapters every week each time for each of the two stories entered for the entire duration of the contest. So 100%. on the updating I have done. And I kept rereading the rules over and over again the entirety of this contest to maintain integrity of abiding by said rules. So I'm good. But thanks for reminding.

Congratulations to all the Wattys shortlisters!!! That's a great achievement and I hope you all are celebrating ❤️. And I have said this before but to others who didn't shortlist, that doesn't make you a bad writer in any way or form. Just keep on writing, please!

It's disappointing to see so many "protests" being made public on the Wattys profile. Genuinely asking, does that not make the shortlisters feel sad and demotivated that others are expressing their displeasure? It is saddening, right?

A friend of mine told me that another friend of theirs have shortlisted in Wattys 2024 but they aren't feeling happy or wanting to celebrate anymore because of what is going on the Wattys profile.

We are a community of writers and readers, here to grow together and support one another. I understand your sentiments but instead of congratulating the shortlisters, is it really necessary to publicly put your complaints about "Wattys being rigged, Creators and Originals writers are only highlighted, not providing reviews is unfair"??? I had to say this but providing reviews for more than thousands of submissions is nearly impossible. Also, this year a diverse number of genres were shortlisted, and also authors with only 1-8 followers and less than thousand reads and votes were recognised in the shortlist. According to me, that's brilliant!

It is a request from a fellow writer, reader and Wattpadder, please stop publicly announcing your complaints instead of congratulating the shortlisters for their achievement. It is extremely hurtful and I hope you all would truly think about this.

          Thank you.

@MarCafeWrites Yeah. They're a private business. Unless they're run by the government and take your tax money, we aren't 'entitled' to get anything XD. Plus, it's our choice to put our stories here knowing their rules. That means it's also our choice to leave.

MarCafeWrites

@jeidafei I couldn't have said it better myself. This is a business. They want to make money. That's the bottom line.

@Clfern As I said, it's Wattpad's choice to keep those abandoned stories in their program. It's their decision what is worth reading. If you deem those stories aren't worth reading, that's just your opinion.
Should Wattpad allow applications for Creators/Paid programs? Maybe. But no, writers are not entitled to anything on here. Wattpad owns this platform. They paid for the staff and servers and storage and maintenance. As I said, THEY get to decide whether to pander and appeal to us by giving us more opportunities. We can share suggestions, they don't have to take it. And if we don't like it, we vote with our stories and leave. And if they're affected by that, they'll change. That's how business works.

Thank you so much to the judges and to everyone for your kind support for Blood Bargain over the past few days!! It really means a lot to see positivity in the comments, and I’m so happy to be among the shortlisted works. So excited to read more of the stories on this platform, both shortlisted and otherwise!

Since Blood Bargain is set in the Appalachian mountains, I wanted to say that my heart is with you if you are among those recovering from the Hurricane Helene damage. For those who may not know, whole towns quite literally washed down the mountain, and areas of Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia North Carolina (where Blood Bargain is set) are still recovering. Relief efforts are well underway, but it will take a long time for our mountains and the wonderful people there to recover. It only seems appropriate that the mountains and their residents get the most awareness possible right now, considering the timing.

Thanks again, all. Looking forward to reading along with you ❤️

CamelliaCarroll

@jeidafei Thank you for your kind words! ❤️ Some places are, thankfully, bouncing back. Others will never be the same. I am mostly keeping track of relief efforts involving impending mountain winters, making sure survivors will have food, shelter, and warm clothing.

I am one of the writers who didn't make the Shortlist. Hoping I am in the majority, I want to thank all the judges, the staff, and all of you at @TheWattys for providing this wonderful contest!

Condolences to all those who didn't make the Shortlist. To all those who are complaining, I hope you realize what a daunting task the judges had to weed us out. With over 850,000 followers on this profile, if there were that many even thinking about entering this year's Watty's, how many entries that would be!
I've read a lot of comments from judges only judging about 10 entries for a small contest, how hard it is, just with that small group of people!

Please, fellow Wattpadders, be considerate of your judges, whether in the Wattys or a small contest. Enter every small contest you can, to learn how to improve your stories.

There's enough hate in the world. Let's let the emotion cool before we post here. This community is kind and caring, and I believe in it. Please spread the positivity and not sink into conspiracy theories and war-mongering. With so many of us, our chances of getting on any shortlist are small.

It hurts not to be chosen, yes, but don't let that turn into hate against the ones who worked so hard for us, to put on this competition. Instead, why not console your fellow writers on your profiles? Spread positivity, not hate.

@DannisWrites Thank you so much! Honestly, we need common sense. WattysEng has 12 named judges. Even if only 100 complete books, each at least 50,000 words long, got past the AI screening, how long would it take to read them all? Then you add articulating your thoughts, re-reading some you already forgot, writing a review, then compiling your review with other judges...it's just not logistically possible with such a short time frame.

And to people who complain they aren't given resources, opportunities, Wattys isn't teaching them...writing is not school. No-one is paid to teach you how (unless you sign up for a Masterclass or take an English major in college). You want to know how to write? You learn by yourself. You seek out resources and advice yourself. You have hands. You have a smartphone/PC. You have wi-fi. Go on YouTube. Search on Google. There are thousands of BookTubers (some published, professional writers and editors) and writing advice blogs nowadays.

You can't just lie there and wait like a crocodile for a bird to drop into your open maw, and expect to succeed on your first try. I've been writing for 20 years. My father is still laughing about how my first book sold 15 copies, just a few years ago. Success comes slow for most people, or not at all. Especially now that everyone wants to be the next J.K. Rowling or Stephen King. Competition is insanely high.

Okay... so, in light of all these issues, can we have a breather for a minute? I have an idea. What if we just share our different stories on how we gain readers here in Wattpad? What if we create a community and make the awards/contests ourselves?

jeidafei

@DannisWrites Yeah, I miss the forums, though. I wish Wattpad would bring it back. But after it's taken down, readers created their own communities and contests to fill that gaping hole.

@jeidafei I believe you are right, that could definitely be the reason.

@_abhipreeti_ Exactly! But I peeked at OP's profile and it seems they're a burner account (Because they don't have any stories) or very new, so maybe they don't know how to find those contest and review group profiles

FOR ANYONE WHO IS DISCOURAGED: I've been on Wattpad since 2012 and I've never won a Watty despite entering each year. I shortlisted once in 2018, but that’s as close as I've gotten. So, I understand the disappointment of not shortlisting or winning. It hit me especially hard in 2021 because I won the Open Novella Contest and it was the first time I felt I had a book with a strong chance of winning a Watty. However, it didn"t even shortlist. That hit me HARD because of how special that book is to me, BUT you gotta keep writing.

Winning a Watty is a big deal, but it also doesn’t define you as a writer on Wattpad. I've accomplished many other great things on the platform over the last 12 years, and consider them tremendous wins.

So, look for wins in other ways and never give up on your stories ❤️

I felt disappointed on wattys2024 especially on WattysPH

Not because di nasama yung Novels ko, but because parang nawawala na talaga yung mga Filipino writers sa wattpad.

#3. Tinamad na ata silang magbasa ng Entries.
#4. Baka ang papanget lang ng Entries this year.
           #5. Na disqualified

DannisWrites

@ItsMeNinzkie I understand your disappointment. Maybe The Wattys will add more languages at some point.
