TO THOSE WHO RACE

We are the fans

We will stand for you
We will jump out of chairs and onto chairs
We will scream your name until our throats are raw and then keep screaming regardless because we already feel too much to notice the pain.

And we will stand with you

We will pour out our hearts so that in the darkest times you know you have a family stretching far beyond blood.

We are the fans

We will count you home one by one
We will not rest easy until we know that you are safe.
We are your mothers, your sisters, your brothers, and although we may shout at you it is because we care too much to keep our feelings inside.

And we will cry with you.

In pride, in joy, and in sorrow we will add our tears to yours because together we share in every moment.

We are the fans

We will grieve for someone we’ve never met as if we’ve known them for years.
Because we have
Because we take every corner, feel every impact
Because we hold our breath, hold hands, hold on to every last shred of hope when all seems lost.

Because we are, and will always be

We are your fans
