Dang it, forgot to announce the post, see my page for the post below this one.

WasatchWind

Hey y'all, it's been a while. Ever so slowly, I've been chipping away at my work on Rip Current - but not in total isolation. I've joined an in person writing club, been getting some real life fans - so that's nice.

But in addition to that, I've been giving out access to a public copy of Rip Current to people, which I update every so often. At this point, the manuscript is now over 200 pages, with a completely reworked beginning, and many other parts rewritten.

But I still feel the loss of being able to share it with people - I really don't want to lose my publishing rights - but I still want feedback, and I don't want to have to wait five or ten years (at least) for people to be able to enjoy my story.

The way I've been sharing it however, has been clunky. Randomly throwing out there that I'm writing a story about merfolk, and hope someone asks more, and I share the google doc.

No, I needed a bit more organization. To that end, I've started a discord server centered around merfolk - with my story as a subset of its purpose.

If you are interested in mermaids or mermen, or my story (or both ) I encourage you to check it out. We're a bit sparse on numbers now, but we're growing by the day. If you want to keep closer tabs on my story, that's how you'll get it.

Thanks to all of you who have helped me in the past with my stories. Ever so slowly, I'm getting to be a better writer, and I couldn't have done it without y'all's feedback and encouragement.

WasatchWind

Sorry y'all.

Rip Current it getting the axe. I'm reading up more on first publishing rights. Apparently, even deleting it from Wattpad, there might still be some cache of it somewhere, and if a prospective publisher finds ANY fragment of my work online, and I was dishonest about saying it had not been previously published, it could see the end of my story every appearing as a published work.

So sorry. I once again say that you can ask for access to the google doc, as that's not publicly available, but otherwise, I'm basically closing up shop on Wattpad.

WasatchWind

@petty_luh_crackhead If you want to gain access to my story, you can message me and ask for the Google doc link

Hello folks,

It's been a while. I'm still working on my writing, and my stories are coming along well. As I've stated though, they will not appear online publicly.

If you are interested in getting access to Rip Current, I can give you the link to the google doc.

Otherwise, my only public works will be on my other account, where I post my legend of zelda fanfiction.

Thank you for your support of my work,

          Wasatch Wind

I have some unfortunate news. Please read.

A professional editor in the publishing industry has informed me that if I post the total of my stories online, it will result in me being unable to sell said stories.

This is due to first publishing rights. Basically, if a publisher finds that I previously had my story online, even if it was a first draft, they will not want to publish it, as they see that prior version of the story cutting into their potential customer base.

So I will be taking Rip Current down. For those who are avid readers, I will provide the google doc so that you can continue reading.

As for this and other online accounts, I am not sure. I have my zelda fanfic on my other Wattpad account that can never be published, so I don't see much issue there with that remaining online. I also have some short stories that I will not be annoyed if they are unable to receive publishing.

I'm just kind of bummed, but I see this as a necessary evil. I hope all of you understand. I really just hope that all my silent readers, who don't comment, vote, etc, and therefore have no way of alerting me to their presence aren't pissed.

If you are willing to read further on my google doc, I appreciate your willingness to continue to support my story. I have had some people suggest abandoning traditional publishing, and putting my story behind a patreon paywall, but I don't intend on doing that.

Thank you for your continued support of my work, and showing me that my work is not just some boring nonsense, but something worth reading.

@WasatchWind I'll send it on Discord, since I don't know how to DM here.

Heyyo. If you're up for giving me more feedback, there are more chapters posted of Magic in the Family.

WasatchWind

@RowanJayy Yes, I would like a written review. :)

RowanJayy

@RowanJayy noted. I will do both then, as I enjoy the ability to comment to the paragraph in Wattpad. On SH, would you like me to write you a full review?

            I prefer comments on Wattpad.

WasatchWind

@RowanJayy Totally - let me know if you prefer that here or scribblehub. Personally, I prefer you read mine on scribblehub - or at least that you support it there (ie write a review and such) and I will try to do likewise. :)

I know people don't normally read these, but I require help with something.

One of my followers posted an image in my discord showing that I'd hit trending on the site. I was ecstatic, but when I got on Wattpad, found absolutely no change in views.

Like... is this a bug? Either that, or - there's little fantasy readers on this site, or just no one is interested in my work.

To make things even weirder, Scribblehub, getting in on this sick April fools joke, also put me on trending, with absolutely no change in readership.

I'm sorry if I'm coming across as arrogant or something - I'm just legitamately baffled? Have I really overestimated my story, or overestimated the power of trending?

Writers have always talked about trending like it was a holy grail that was nigh impossible to reach, but gave instant boosts in views. So... yeah. I'm confused.

WasatchWind

@deerlydot Thanks! I really appreciate it! Either my fanfiction or my fantasy, I enjoy either! I especially enjoy comments. Views are nice and all, but getting good criticisms and pointing out what is enjoyed helps me a lot. :)

@WasatchWind I'm interested in your works, friendo! You've also inspired me to make an AU for Spirit Tracks thanks to it. Also, would it be alright if I sent your amazing story to a few group chats I'm in? For one thing, it might give your stories a boost in reads, and for another thing, I think people should read your works!

I've finally done a bit of an update to Chapter 1 of Rip Current. I'm still not incredibly happy with it - it will be tweaked a good number of times more I imagine, but right now, I think it gets the job done.

I'm slowly starting to chip away at the beginning of the novel's second part. It will require some new worldbuilding, and I'm going to have to finally decide how I want to do the magic in this story...

WasatchWind

Rip Current has reached 5K views. It feels awesome to see it succeed as it has, even better that I feel like I'm finally making headway in writing the story's plot.

Sadly, it feels like my traction on Wattpad is decreasing only more and more. On Scribblehub, my story is actually getting noticed somewhat, and that site doesn't, y'know, feel like its dying.

Don't worry though. My story is still gonna be uploaded here. I would encourage y'all to read it on scribblehub though. :)
