New dad, Actor, big brother, piano player, Claret, coffee hater, Yorkshireman, favourite uncle, left handed, chocoholic, Astro, hiker, rubbish swimmer.

I am a greying Yorkshireman and live with my wife, two kids and five fish, south of York. I enjoy the outdoors, sport (mostly football and baseball) and act with a local theatre group. My family is my world. I have no previously published work, no unfinished manuscripts gathering dust in the loft or faded exercise books filled with crossed out ramblings and ideas. This is my first attempt at a novel.

I wish I had conceived this book years ago before I had a demanding full-time job, a three-year old daughter and a one-year old son. I wish I had started writing during Covid lockdown when I was furloughed for six months, had no kids and all the time in the world. But no, the ideas and the compulsion hit me not long after the birth of my first child. I have spent the last two years snatching precious hours during business trip train journeys or dictating into my phone whilst pushing a pram through my village. My evenings start with playtime, teatime, bath time and bedtime. Whatever time remains once peace and quiet prevails has been devoted to researching, writing and editing long into the night, often with a sleeping child sprawled across me. I am very tired...!
