Lucy Lilley is a storyteller by nature, a weaver of waking dreams. Whether it be stories crafted from the written word or illustration, clothing sculptures or textiles; Lucy interweaves reality with a dreamlike vision of the world to allow the reader to see beyond what's there, to find beauty in the surrealness and strangeness that is hiding under our consciousness. To her, writing and art are all but the same. One might write with a pen, Lucy paints with hers as some might dance with theirs.
Her writing ranges from short stories, poetry, and prose inspired by her childhood and adult travel adventures. She draws on the various cultural landscapes, strange encounters, and personal relationships and friendships she's experienced across the world over the years. Inspired by the supernatural, spiritual and mundane, Lucy experiments with all states of being in her poetry in prose memoir style, creating a magical realistic effect. Her writing falls under creative non-fiction that reads like fiction or fictional tellings of real-life experiences.
Lucy came to writing late in life as carrying a sewing machine in her suitcase was just not practical! Writing allowed Lucy to remain creative as did her tiny watercolor set. Both creative practices birthed Lucy's first illustrated memoir, Alice, in the Jungle.
Her sources of inspiration include the works of Cortazar, Paulo Coelho, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and historical travelogues by Women explorers.

I'm taking a little break, just reading and seeing what's happening around me. I'm musing on a sequal to Alice or even a story following similar lines. I'd love to publish, I guess we'd all like that...
