Friends! Long time no see! I come bearing the most excellent news!

Remember that debauched, gruesome, some called ‘disgusting’ vampire novella I wrote last year? The one that longlisted in the ONC and then was scrubbed from the site for “content violations” five months AFTER it was already reviewed by ambs and up in its entirely? It was called Slaughter? Remember that little gem?

Well, it’s been acquired by Black Rose, the erotic horror/dark imprint of the gothic horror indie press, Quill & Crow Publishing, under the title A THING DIVINE! And we’re pushing for an October release. Of this year! Just in time for spooky season! You can see the official announcement on the Q&C IG account, @quillandcrowpublishinghouse. I also posted something on both my Rian Adara IG and Threads accounts @rianadarabooks.

I’m so excited to not only bring this puppy to life, because I was going to self publish it anyway, but to have it in the capable hands of Q&C who puts out absolutely gorgeous work. If you want to stay up to date on all the details for A THING DIVINE and get them first, make sure to sign up for my newsletter at www.rianadarabooks.com. Things are going to move fast between now and the end of the year! I can’t wait!

@authordonnataylor Congratulations! That is awesome news! And it definitely sounds like the perfect revenge against the Big W! This is exactly the kind of good news I needed, given my COVID sickness and all! I’m stuck in quarantine time, and I needed some good news to cheer me up.

Happy New Year, everyone! As you may or may not have noticed, all my books have been removed from my profile as promised for the last three-ish months or so. While I’ll still keep this profile I will not really be contributing to anything Wattpad going forward. 2024 is going to be a busy year for me that includes a cross-country move, writing two books, and publishing one! So yeah, I have my hands full.

If you want to stay up to date on my writing endeavors, I strongly encourage you to sign up for my newsletter: https://authordonnataylor.substack.com/. This newsletter will be for my YA and general audience writing only going forward. If you want to stay on top of my adult writing, including the forthcoming release of my erotic horror novella later this year, visit the website for my new pen name, Rian Adara: https://www.rianadarabooks.com/. There you can sign up for a separate newsletter only for my adult works, along with following on separate social media platforms. I had to draw a hard line between the two.

I hope 2024 brings you joy and productive writing and that you reach all the goals you set!

@authordonnataylor Happy New Year Donna! I suscribed to substack. Still trying to figure out my way there though as my profile there does not want to be fully created. Might be a wi-fi problem. I'll try again later. Take Care!

Hi, everyone! This is a reminder that all of my writing will be coming down at the end of the month. Every book has a notification page in it at the front, so if anyone is currently adding them to reading lists, hopefully they’ll see it. I will still use this profile for occasional updates, but if you want to really stay up to date on all my writing, be sure to sign up for my newsletter and follow me on IG, TikTok, and Threads at this same handle: @authordonnataylor. My newsletter is linked below. I’m crafting the online presence for my adult pen name as we speak. Hopefully in the new year I’ll be able to announce that.

@authordonnataylor Honestly, I'd much rather buy your Blood on the Boardwalk series and read it on my kindle. Wishing you all the best.

Oooooo I’m so close to choosing a pen name for my adult books! I’m going to make a graphic for it this weekend. :)

Edits on what was previously known as SLAUGHTER are wrapping up. I’ve whittled down my already short list of pubs to an even shorter one. I’ll only be submitting it to two (as opposed to maybe six). Unfortunately, the one indie press that was specific to erotic horror decided to shut down. Welp! Onto the next one!

And I had a photo shoot done last month and DAMN. I’ve impressed myself. I can’t wait to share them with you all! They’re so appropriate for both my Donna Taylor name and the new one. I’m glam goth in my heart. <3

How’s your writing year shaping up?

As November is now half over (OMG when tf did that happen?), I’m winding down my writing so I can take my yearly break over the month of December. I started doing this in 2021 when I was recovering from my hysterectomy and haven’t looked back. A forced break (and toward the end of the month it will be forced, I get twitchy when I don’t write for long periods) wherein I do crafty things and read cozy Christmas mysteries. I look forward to it.

I’m considering my goals hit (or will be hit shortly). I’ve touched on everything I wanted to touch on, got to a starting or stopping point on what I wanted to work, and I have my plans for 2024 pretty much ready to go (mainly because they’re fairly simple this coming year).

So tell me how your writing is shaping up! Are you on track to hit all your goals? Did you have to recalibrate during the year? Do you know what you want to tackle next year?

Digital_F1aw

@authordonnataylor , that makes sense.
W/ 100 words or less, I’d imagine it would be increasingly difficult to plot out anything more than a short scene or poem. Did those stories ever build into one another?

@Digital_F1aw the last time I did a drabble challenge was in my Fright Night book on my profile. And the way you get over feeling hampered by short works is keep writing them! The more comfortable you get with them, the less daunting they seem.

Ah, wow! I always find word limits so restrictive. Almost to the point debilitation when it comes to writing. That must be a common dilemma, right? Do you happen to have any advice for such an issue, if I may ask?
Didn’t know there were different kinds of profiles on here. Guess it doesn’t matter too much tho— it seems. Haha
Ah, ok. I think I’ve been correlating novellas to be the same as short stories since forever. Didn’t know how they were different until now— kinda. Did you post all the drabble challenge stories here on Wattpad or are they meant to be privated works for ppl that participate in them?

If you’re in the US and haven’t done so yet, please contact your congressmen and demand a ceasefire in Gaza. The UN has officially come out and stated the Palestinians are facing a genocide if this doesn’t stop. Indiscriminate bombing of civilians, most of whom are children, is not self defense. Please contact your congressmen and demand a ceasefire and for the US to stop enabling Israel in the eradication of the Palestinian people.

Happy belated Halloween, friends? I’ve been traveling for work, and while I wasn’t home for my favorite holiday, I did get the chance to go on a haunted walking tour of Colonial Williamsburg in Halloween night! Not too shabby a substitute. I hope your ghostly night was filled with lovely tricks and tasty treats!

Of course now I’m inspired to write a short story collection all centered around Halloween. I didn’t have a good reading run in October, and the Halloween collection I did read was disappointingly not very Halloweeny. I feel the need to fix this.

Good luck to everyone venturing down the NaNo path this month! Stay strong and consistent! You got this!

Help me decide! I’m going to use a second pen name for my adult books (like PROJECT TITAN: DEFECT) in order to differentiate that from the YA and “general audience” books I intend to write under Donna Taylor (like my San Nico Slayers series). I have a short list of narrowed-down names. Which do you like best?

          Collette King
          Harper Hawkins
          Sophia Alessi
          Rian de Palma
          Harper King
          Riley Russo

I won’t tell you my favorite because I don’t want to skew results. But please tell me yours! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

sophia alessi or rian de palma!
