Hey all! New update on the Gods Rising re-write and other recent publications of mine now live on GR itself!

NiniKoun

I’m so exited to see this, I haven’t been back on Wattpad for a while and this update made my day!

@syxibxni Hey!! First off it's so good to hear from you! I'm always thrilled whenever anyone from Wattpad checks in about GR. I can't believe you still have the book, and that you still occasionally read it lol. So far no publishing news on GR and the rest, BUT the latest draft of GR is done and is with my first round of beta readers. The consensus from the ones I've heard back from is that the ending is cant-put-down gripping, so I'm insanely excited about that. I'm probably going to start querying literary agents this summer in the downtime after I finish my PhD. My goal here is to go the traditional publishing route. I elected to rewrite GR just because...well, I thought I could do a lot better lolol, esp since it's been like 13 years since I wrote the original draft. Feel free to shoot me a message if you want to talk more about it, Id love to know what things about GR really pulled you in so I make sure I preserve them!

I hope you’re okay, last time we got an update was last year . I am still patiently waiting for you to publish your next book. I am money ready please take it to support your work. I am desperate to read what happens next.

@NiniKoun omg I'm so sorry it took me a while to see this! Believe it or not, I actually just finished up the GR rewrite draft yesterday! I sent it out to 3 of my beta readers. There are a couple of weak points still, but this whole manuscript is infinitely, INFINITELY stronger than it has been in the past, while I think staying true to the characters and the themes of the original. I had been holding off posting an update until my next short story publication comes out--I can't talk about it since I'm not under contract yet, but it's going to be a big one and pretty representative of what my writing style has become since my Wattpad days. It's actually really gratifying that there are ppl still interested in the story!!!

Hey everyone! Popping in for a 2022 update on GR! I'm on the last 5th of the book. Admittedly it's diverging a good bit from the original here, so it's been slow writing as I parse out what I want to happen and how I still link certain character threads together. That said, I've been really enjoying some of the character work and worldbuilding! I've grounded some of the Techaran species in ways I'm really proud of, and I think it's going to be a much better ending if I can successfully sell the mounting unease and tension. On my personal side of things, grad school is ramping up so I've been crazy busy. In my free time, I've started bouldering and playing capoiera, which has been tremendously fun. I've enjoyed becoming a more physical person since I was definitely a couch potato before, and it's been helping to deepen my understanding when I write fight scenes and such. Hopefully, my next update will be when I finish it!

Hey everyone!

Just thought y'all were owed a bit of an update since it's been a bit over a year since I started the rewrite of GR. So far it's actually going...shockingly well?? I'm taking a bit to reevaluate how the ending is going to go, but so far I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying writing it. Things are more sophisticated, less heavy-handed. I'm feeling like I'm doing a better job with Eldaterrian culture. I've got 2 beta readers who genuinely (and to my great surprise) enjoy it. So, I think it'll take me maybe another 6 to 8 months to finish the first draft, and probably another 3 to finish tweaks since I have to go back and shift some stuff but...idk, I'm cautiously optimistic this time around. There'll definitely be a big announcement if anything cool happens, but for those of you still interested I figured I might as well slap an update on this site.

@JaneBarillo ... was there supposed to be more of a message that got sent? Lol

Hey everyone!

I'll be doing NaNoWriMo this year to keep me on track writing GR. Who knows if I'll keep it up because I'm also writing a fellowship application at the same time but oh well! If any of y'all are also doing it, I'd love to add some of you as buddies.

Hey all!

Just an update on my progress re-writing GR! I just broke 100,000 words today! It's definitely need some refining when I'm done, but in general I really like this version. I think I really build to certain events better.

Anyway, that's all! That's my update, as sorta anticlimactic as it is. I hope you guys are doing well and staying safe!

bababoey2u

Hi all,

I posted an update on my progress rewriting GR to the book itself (my post was way too big to fit as an announcement lol). It's not the fantastic news you've all been hoping for, but for the first time in a long time, I can say that it's going really well!

JaneBarillo

Ahhhh....shadow god saga is taken down? Are u publishing that also? if you are I will look to purchase that also

JaneBarillo

@bababoey2u oh boo lol I was hoping the 2and installment would be ready 2 be out soon and you will find readers are way more loyal than fans of movies and such....I know that once I love a story, I will always have that in my library in my head....but I will always re-read 1s I love (like urs). When you edit yours, I just hope that the whole tone of your story stays intact along with the characters.....but I have a feeling the main concepts and ideas that made ur characters and world come alive will still be intact, hopefully just fuller or more rounded? haha i will still waiting

@JaneBarillo Awh thanks! I do really appreciate that there are still people out there (like you!) who are so into the book. It's been both a passion project and a giant pain for about a decade of my life at this point, so it's good knowing that at least it reached some people. Admittedly though, to give you a heads up, some things are changing in the re-write (which I hope to one day publish through a larger publishing house). A lot of scenes are changing, or are happening in different orders, and I'm focusing a lot on worldbuilding and more solidly incorporating things that happen in later books so it doesn't seem like they came out of nowhere. I hope that doesn't destroy your enjoyment of the story too much! I just know that, for me, I know I can do better than I did in the original!

Just wanted to say, I am SOOOOOO glad when you published the book that you didn't rewrite the whole thing. I was following a story and author, and in my opinion, she totally destroyed the magic of her story when she rewrote it for publishing, bc she changed so much (from tone, character development, scene settings, EVERYTHING) but since she edited her own work, she cant see what I am saying and I am so sad bc she took down her original version from the website.....so, again, I am SO HAPPY your original was not 2 different from ur published version (bc the original is what I fell in love with!!)❤❤❤
