Like bright green emeralds lying on a cloth of deep blue velvet - this is how the Norwegian adventurer and globetrotter Thor Heyerdahl described Seychelles on approaching Mahé. This impression is reinforced when you take a closer look at the islands because Seychelles are true gems in the Indian Ocean. There are 115 islands and each of them has its own character and a very special flair. From a purely geographical point of view, the island state of Seychelles lies roughly between Africa and Mauritius, and the islands together cover 400,000 km2. Almost 93,000 people live on the inhabited islands and tourism is the strongest source of income for the Republic of Seychelles, accounting for 70%. Most tourists visit the main islands of Mahé, Praslin and also La Digue. Those who would like to get to know the other islands can do some interesting island hopping and travel from one island to the other.
