Dear writers,

If you ever doubt your writing abilities and/or stories, just remember that D&D have managed to sell their shitty ASOIAF fan fiction with the biggest budget and production value in the history of television.

PS. The trauma a woman has endured does. Not. Qualify. As. Character. Development.
Alayne Stone is coming for your asses.

@walkindisaster11 i wrote my previous message having just watched 8x05 and I still find hilarious how D&D are obviously following a "checklist" pattern; meaning, they were given some major plot points by GRRM, and just cross items off a list, thinking that this justifies the complete heel-face turns. What was even Jaime's arc? What's nuance? What's consistency? Dany didn't magically turn mad, for any other raeson than "ohmahgooood khaleesi's evuuuhl now". Dark!Dany has always been prominently theorized, but the way it was depicted... It didn't make any sense. Consider my expectations subverted, writers! Bravo! Tbh I kinda dislike Jon in the show because he is such a shameless fantasy cliché hero, but I like him in the books for the reasons you mentioned (and I lowkey ship him with Alys Karstark or Val). About Sansa, the writers saw Alayne's complex pawn to player arc, the turn from naiveté to pragmatism and said 'no' but they saw Jeyne's rape and torture and said 'yes' and made Sansa a supporting character to Theon's redemption. Stop me, please, I seriously can talk about my crushed GoT/ASOIAF hopes and dreams ad infinitum :p

@darthsansa I definitely love her idealistic approach, but I never really connected with her character, not sure why tho. I always loved Jon's character, he was honorable, kind, smart and he was respectful (a word that doesn't even exists on asoiaf), and I really dig that, a different character, another reason why I loved Ned so much, he was just so...pure, the world didn't deserve him and to this day I still mourn his death. But you have a really good point and mjfeelz on saying that abuse and sexual violence are not the only experiences that can turn a naive girl (Sansa) into a strong woman, however her experience with Cersei, everything she went through there, that definitely made her stronger (it could have gone bad, but I don't think it did, as we don't see an evil Sansa, just a cunning, overprotective when it comes to the north and her family and definitely smart woman who takes no shit from anyone), and then all of the abuse that followed with Ramsay was just something the writers did to make people talk about it, you know, with all this 'it's worse if they don't talk at all', so that's what really bothers me, and that peculiar line she said to Tyrion. And I don't know if you watched 8x05, but I'm just speechless, the writing is a perfect example for mediocre writing and I can't believe they went there. (I'm so sorry you lost your monster rant, that sucks!)

@walkindisaster11 I like Dany well enough. She's idealistic but her means are ofter counter-productive and she learns and grows into a role she thinks is bestowed upon her. But her going mad other than "bitches be crazy"? What a misogynistic mess. On the other side, you have good guy Jon and good guy Tyrion, who have fucked up counteless times and the writers *still* go out of their way to fellate them on every possible occasion. And trauma does make for character development, that I agree with. But as mjfeelz said above, the writers seem to think that abuse, sexual violence and humiliation are the only experiences that can turn a naive girl into a strong woman™. (I'm so mad, I had written a monster of a rant and only *after* I had posted it, did the app notify me it was too long and deleted it. Smh.)
