"Ah, Hawkeye. What a terrible predicament we find ourselves in. I have orders to follow, you have a moral obligation... would it be too much to ask you, kindly, to just pretend you haven't seen anything and just let me go?"

His positive energy and the hope his words inspired worked like a magnet for lost souls such as herself. There's no way to don't feel yourself drawn to him, wanting to follow him — with that power of persuasion, he could ask anyone to jump off a plane without a parachute on and you'd still believe everything would be alright because he was telling you so. Great persuasion skills, really. Something she learned in her classes about manipulation, but under a very different light: he used that to do good, while she used it to bring people to their own ruin. She felt wrong, immoral and impure in too many ways when she stood close to him. It threw her off balance, making her question things that shouldn't be questioned, if she wanted her head to stay where it was.
'Don't disappoint yourself', he said. That's what she did everyday. To the point she was indifferent to the feeling now. He brought it back on her, though, the ability of *caring* about something else than someone else's goals. She cared about what could possibly happen to him, in case the Boss knew of his interferences. She worried they would ask her to get rid of him, in order to prove her loyalty. That's how they worked. No space for empathy nor compassion. "Indeed," were her last words to him — before she jumped on a dumpster and leaped on the fire escape. This isn't how she likes to do things, she prefers it in a way no one sees her coming. But desperate times... you know how the saying goes.

even when she pulled the trigger, he didn't dare move and kept his head steady— there wasn't much room for fear anymore, not when he had so much faith in the goodness that was clear enough to see. even if he had taken the shot, it wouldn't at all have wavered his belief in that. "so what if you disappoint me? i'm no good either. and i'm not your dad. just don't disappoint yourself." he offered her a smile nonetheless, like he wanted his words to stick with her if nothing else. he knew he'd try again, almost like she would get annoyed enough with him eventually that she'd agree. with her target in mind, he stood still before raising an eyebrow. "looks like we're on the clock."

Adamantly, the woman shook her head -- with every word he said, every invitation, every promise... she couldn't listen to him. Yet, there she was. Why was it so hard to pull the trigger? She's done it before, so many times that she had lost count. Still, no move was made against him, for he represented something: he represented hope. If not for her, for someone else. Another Natasha, somewhere. God knows there's plenty of people out there, just waiting for an exit door to be opened for them. "I'm bound to betray and disappoint you in the long run. That's what I do," Ekaterina fired her gun, but on purpose, she aimed a bit to the left to hit the tree behind him. "This is my last warning," she announced, but her voice softened up slightly when she added: "Please -- don't stand on my way again." she wouldn't be able to protect him from them if he kept interfering, and that's a fact. Taking a few steps backwards, she kept her gun pointed at him -- in hopes it would make him stay where he was. She had a target to take care of, that, if someone didn't call the cops after that arrow he fired and her two shots.

"Do you remember Barry?" she inquired him, showing the pink unicorn plush she had on her bag. She really didn't think he would remember her, or the day he fell on a pile of plush toys inside a store while chasing a guy in a tracksuit. But, Anna, of course, never forgot that day... it's not always you have a chance to meet your (second) favourite hero!

"Good!" she linked her arm with his and gently guided him to... well, nowhere specifically, just away from other people, so she wouldn't cause panic! Not that it was a matter for panic... yet. "You sure know Wilson Fisk, right? Well, he's about to get himself some new allies. Powerful people, coming all the way from my country to settle here. The man who is coming, his life was entirely dedicated to obtain superpowers, he's obsessed since, you know, forever! But things got worse after the Avengers became recognized worldwide! I'm sure that, if he's trying to form a connection with Fisk, it won't be good... if Fisk gives him the money to keep on researching, or sh*t like that --"

"yeah, yeah, i can do professional. i'm not busy." he pretended to put his serious hat on for a second, quickly his attention had been drawn by the request and his nod came quicker than his answer. once it was out, though, he furrowed his eyebrows thoughtfully as if trying to fill the gaps himself. no such luck, though- he still wasn't a mind reader! "what's up?"

Need? No. But he deserved it. He deserved having people looking up to him, following his footsteps, for he represented *people*. You know? The *only human* folks, who had no special superpowers? They're shown that, with strong will, determination and training, they could make a difference already. That's what he meant to her! "That's good to hear! Eh, I'm doing alright. Actually, I kinda need to have a word with you about something, in a more... professional matter, if that's okay? Are you busy? If so, I can totally wait, I understand."

"I did that last month. A week after, she was there, complaining about how I still haven't bought any decent cutlery," she laughed at that — Yelena was just like that, it was her way to show people that she cared, Kate supposed, regardless of how 'unique' her ways were. "Unfortunately, yeah. Some glasses just look better on other people and not you, it's sad," she knew this wasn't what he was referring to, but she liked joking around with him. He was no better, so it was good for him to have a taste of how it was like to have people sassing him back.

"you gotta change the locks or something.." not that it would stop her, clint supposed— a talented spy for a reason, and it was sort of off-putting. maybe kate wouldn't be able to escape it. clint studied the mirror with a laugh, the glasses being very dramatic but, admittedly, pretty cool. "that doesn't sound fair. is that how that works?"

"Would she? I never know what's going on in her mind. She's scary, in an admirable way, but I try not to talk too much around her, afraid she'll break in my apartment or something... scratch that, she already does it. A lot! But she waits for me without a knife in her hands, I want to make sure it stays that way," she laughed, pulling him by his wrist gently, so he could look at himself in the mirror too. "You rock that Matrix style, look at you! I'll be getting you that one," she did her finger guns to the mirror. "A gift, since you've been so nice to come with me." she teased slightly, playfully nudging her shoulder against his.

She had a discreet smile on her face during the whole time she climbed up the stairs to his apartment. In her hands, a box of pepperoni pizza and a bouquet of purple flowers, just because. With a gentle knock on his door, Nat waited for him -- a playful look in her eyes as she mentally rehearsed how she was going to greet him.

"I know, right," she responded just as amused, waiting for him to close the door and listening to him with an idle, small smile on her lips. "Ah, well," she sighed, feigning tiredness. "I don't mind being the messenger," with a chuckle, she waited for him — watching as he disappeared from her sight and then returned, switching gifts with him. "Thank you, dear -- I know this is supposed to go for your secret admirer," she grinned mischievously. "But you know how curious I can be. May I open it and know what is it?"

"some kinda hero." he mused with amusement in his eyes, a hand on her back as he encouraged her in to close the door behind her. "well, i got stuff for you but, y'know, seeing as these are from some kinda secret admirer, you'll have to give it to them instead." he teased, and would gesture for her to give him a second before he went and found her stuff, taking the things she handed him and putting them on the counter next to him. "happy valentines." he liked holidays, they always made things a little more fun at least.

"I hope I am!" she answered with a soft smile, excusing herself as she entered and pressed a tiny kiss on his cheek in greeting. "Your secret admirer left the gifts they bought for you at my apartment by mistake -- and since I'm such a good person, of course I would bring them to you," she joked, a playful look in her eyes, as she handed them over to him (but not before adding the box of chocolates on top of everything too). "Happy Valentines, Сокол <Hawk>."

// hmm... maybe some angst ?? maybe she sees him wearing the Ronin suit ?? up to you, friend !! <33

"No?" to counter his coldness, there was defiance in the tone of her voice. And derision too, to a certain extent, when she continued: "Next thing, you'll claim you're shutting them out to 'protect' them... when, honestly, I think you're trying to protect none other than yourself," does hurt always becomes anger? Because, admittedly, right now she was *mad* at him. Mad at him for lying, for pushing her away, for resorting to such methods... it was like he was giving up on everything he defended and represented when becoming a criminal to fight criminals! Mad at him for his hypocrisy... but maybe, more than everything, mad at *herself* for still caring about him, worrying about him... like they were still together. "You didn't. But you chose to. There was the right way and the easy way... but because the right one was also the hard one, you didn't choose it." she looked at him with disappointment then. "Typical." Bobbi took a couple of steps back again... she didn't mean to say that, but she did. She was hurting him too, and that's not what she intended when she went there tonight... she hadn't been a good wife, and wasn't being a good friend now, either. That's when she sat down on the steps of a random establishment and covered her face.
The worst feeling in the world: it was to know you couldn't do anything to help someone you cared about...

"Excuses," her frustration was becoming more visible, perhaps with the way her hands were slightly shaking, or the way she parted her lips again but couldn't speak: words getting caught in her throat, making it hard to breathe as the emotions seemingly tried to suffocate her. Bobbi would look away and run a hand through her hair, then, trying to calm herself down. And when her eyes met his again, the previous tears forming in them were no longer threatening to spill. "You're lying even to yourself, now. Deep down you know this is wrong, otherwise you wouldn't try to hide it from your friends. You don't need this, this is *not* your job, Clint. The guys who worked for the Hood, the ones the police found in that warehouse... it was your doing?!"

She would raise an eyebrow at him and, subconsciously take a step back. The words hurt, of course, and if she reacted with a shake of her head with pure disbelief... it was because she (unfortunately in circumstances such as these) couldn't really mask anything up around Clint. "So... this is how you wanted this to be? Are you going to push me away... again?" she inquired him, holding back her emotions and delivering her words in a neutral tone. She didn't even know how she managed it, but... "Just answer me one thing, Clint — do you plan on doing the same thing with everyone who cares about you? Do you plan on hurting them, pushing them away too? Do you think they deserve this?"
