— CANON INFORMATION, SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE AHEAD —
            
            ᛝ ryan has lived in a very religious community.
            ᛝ this community believes engaging in romance with the same sex is lust, and must be punished.
            ᛝ when the pastor is told of ryan’s romance with another boy by the name of hunter, a “deliverance healer” is called to perform a ritual to rid of their desires for one another.
            ᛝ this ritual did not purge him of these desires. instead, it allowed for what can only be described as an entity to begin following him. this entity takes the form of the one he desires most, that being the new boy in town — naim reid.
            ᛝ this entity lures him in, it’s only goal being to kill him. this is the only way those desires can be purged — by death. ryan believes this is naim, and follows blindly whenever it shows up at his house.
            ᛝ when he realizes later that naim has been put through the same ritual, he discovers that the entity takes the form of ryan when it comes after him.
            ᛝ the pair discover this ritual (and by extension, the entity) cannot be reversed, and it only attacks when the person it’s after is alone.
            ᛝ ryan feels fear, for one of the first times in his life. he feels fear, knowing that every time that he faces the boy he loves.. it may not be him. it may be the entity coming after him instead.
