"nah, i was just curious,"      he continued, tone light.      "i usually spend my time out here all alone, so i wondered what you were up to."

[  standing off to his side,  the felt a drop of rain at the tip of her nose.  as she looks up to the sky,  she wipes it away with the back of her palm.  she knew it had to come at some point.  her attention is directed back to the man,  her arms crossing against her chest in hopes to keep warm.  ]    yeah ..  i guess so.   [  the events she went through flash through her mind;  the panic,  the screams,  all the loss.  there’s a underlying guilt that slowly gnawed at her from the inside.  ]    i tried to warn them but  ..  they didn’t believe me.    [   her words have a defeated tone as she watches him pick at the lock.  she remembers the night all too well—  how could she not?  little did she know,  it would be a night she would soon have night terrors about.  ]   maybe we should find another way in if it doesn’t work—

[  marlene takes his comment with nothing but a nod of appreciation.  the people she’d lost was a conversation for another day if they were to survive the night.  it took everything in her to not break down—  not yet,  anyways.  since a early age,  masking her emotions was something she became good at.  it came in handy in times like these.   something in her gut told her to trust him and she did.  she removes her hand from the doors knob,  letting him have his turn with it.  ]   think you can get it open?

[a hand remains at her own hip,  as dark eyes take in his appearance——and yet he did not look familiar.   even her own abilities  made him seem more   ...   elusive.  however, at least she could put her worries to rest and finally breathe a sigh of relief that he wasn't a monster——or a enemy.]   my superiors sent me and my team out to investigate a disturbance  ..  apparently the people here are either getting affected or killed by whatever..  is out here.   [turning her head, she let's out a sigh and pinches the bridge of her nose,  hoping this whole ordeal wouldn't cause vanessa to get a headache.]   ──but, to make our moment less tense, i won't keep my name from you.  it's agent vanessa estevez,  and yours?  id like to put a name to such a pretty face of yours,  mystery man.

(  there  was  some  truth  to  her  words;  although,  she  never  healed  as  quickly  as  she  needed  to. it  seemed  her  body  was  constantly  playing  some  sick  joke  with  lorene. always  saved  at  the  last  second,  but  never  in  between. )    so,  do  you  have  a  name  ?  or  should  i  create  one  for  you  ?. . . the  ladder  might  be  easier.
