          Crushed Hearts could have been fake dating! It was an idea I originally played around with for a while, but I decided it didn’t really work with the ‘crush’ aspect of the story. However, I really want to write a fake dating story now :P

          * fun fact: this story was originally called ‘playing pretend.’ I had picked the title for the sports aspect (playing the game of love, and also playing the field while running), and the deal aspect (where Emery and Beckett are pretending not to be attracted to each other). I used both of these words a lot during the story, to the point where it could probably be a little game :P I love the current title way more, though! (:

          * fun fact: Emery originally was going to be named Addison. This got swapped to his brother’s name eventually, because it is a great name, and I loved it too much not to keep it somehow. We can all blame this as the reason Addy is such a penchant for chaos, as he might not have existed unless the switch in names happened. He basically demanded to exist :P

          fun fact: Serenity Transport (the company that Emery inherits) is car-related because I wanted to challenge myself. I like learning new things, and I know nothing about car parts, so I went with it, much like the research I had to do for the track sections of the story. Characters who are different from me (like Emery sometimes is) make it fun for me to write, though he does share a lot with me, too. I try to give every character something to make them fun for me to explore, whether that means I get to see new perspectives, or give them a cool hobby that I also enjoy.

          * fun fact: my university campus had a myth that the top floor of its main building was haunted. I always found learning the stories of its past cool, so I took a little inspiration from that in order to make the campus in this story feel more lively. Plus, I think it makes Emery’s hyperfixation on the founder feel fitting.
          
          This month has been utter chaos, but I hope everyone is having a happy week! ♡

          * fun fact: the fictional city of Alderly I used for this story got its name from the very first fantasy idea I wrote, which I’ve long since realized was terrible (but it did have cool lore, and apparently cool city names).

          * fun fact: In order to study up on serial structure for this story (read: consume content I’d been meaning to watch and read anyway, but now with an excuse) I found myself seeking out a lot of different shows. The biggest helpers for this one were episodic: Suits, and House MD. Both were a big help with drama and building large casts of characters. As for books: The Art of Fielding (Chad Harbach), and Into the Blue (Pene Henson), were the original vibes I wanted for this story. Writing it made me love researching and challenging myself even more!
