The only difference is that when you lay in bed and wonder, you are in the real world while when reading a book, you are in between reality and fantasy. That is why people choose to read, it closes one door and opens another-

If you don't understand my plots, I'm sorry but that's on you, I've read some crazy ass books and managed to understand them so you should be able to read with AT LEAST a basic idea on what the plot is. Before y'all call me rude, this is coming from a girl that removed her books at points because people couldn't take a moment to think. Too complicated? Don't read it.
