rain pelted heavily against the roof, resounding through the dimly illuminated common area with peaceful thuds. days like this were her favorite. there was not much the woman from sokovia enjoyed about new york, but she did enjoy the weather.

the padding of feet coming down the hallway draws her attention away from her copy of 'madame bovary,' one of her favorite pieces of french literature.

catching a glimpse of the petite woman, she relaxes. "oh, hello anya. i did not realize that you were here."

‘ are you busy? i want to show you something. ’ there was a poor attempt at pietro trying to curb his excitement.

/ i thought u meant anya’s children and i was blinking real hard.

a slight, small gasp fell from anya’s lips. she knew that this would be something special, something lovely, but she didn’t ever anticipate /how/ lovely it would be.

her voice lowered to a small whisper, leaning up to whisper in his ear. ‘ thank you, piet. this is beautiful, ’. it was true, she loved the outdoors - ever since that afternoon in spring many moons ago. and this, this made it all the more special.

her hand found pietro’s squeezing his palm in a wordless way to say thank you. the doe were mesmerising for anya - truly. they reminded her of something out of a movie, a movie she could only ever dream of living. and with pietro stood by her side, she supposed she was living the movies she’d hopelessly watched.

            * / so i’m rereading the reply i sent at 4 am and what the hell was that writing i... i’m so sorry you had to read that PDFFFP

they eventually find themselves standing a few feet away from the edge of a river. pietro tugs anya’s hand to crouch down with him behind a bush. he looks at her, ignores the thump in his chest when she stares at him inquisitively, and presses a finger to his lips.

without saying another word, the sokovian motions for her to peer ahead. there, vaguely hidden by a bush of lilacs was a doe and her two children, grazing by the edge of the river. pietro can already imagine the huge smile creeping onto anya’s face.

‘ i find them two days ago. i remember you are reading a book of animals so i - ’ he pauses, tilting his chin towards the huddled deers to finish his sentence.

a small smile plays upon her face, cheeks momentarily dusting pink. anya’s smile is evident, her head tilting to rest upon his shoulder.

she truthfully doesn’t know what he is going to show her, but the excitement that pietro is radiating is more than enough for her to match his. ‘ i am unsure, pie. but i am sure it is lovely. ’ she tells him, her smile the widest it has been all day.
