At age 84, Mary Eatmon is using her story to show people how to live joyously.Born and raised in an era where many women lacked education about what was an acceptable boundary concerning their bodies; men, at that time, believed that a woman's only role was to bare and raise their children. During those times the police did little to address the claims made by women because they considered it a private matter.

For 65 years Mary kept the secret that she held as to why she decided to marry at age 15. Unfortunately, at such a young age, she had no idea of the repercussions that she and eventually her children would later sustain from her decision to remain silent in that loveless marriage. This decision evolved from her earlier beliefs that she was ruined, no longer virtuous, after her attack. Mary purposely bonded with her assailant in an attempt that she would later succumb to. Victims who are taken against their will, raped, or verbally and physically abused generally use this technique to ensure their survival, which sets the foundation for a psychological disorder known as Stockholm Syndrome.

Nine Houses shares Mary's inspiring story of adversity, abuse and escape. It reveals the heart-wrenching tale of a young girl forced into a tumultuous marriage that lasted for 30 years and how she overcame the pain that accompanied the truth of what happened. Through telling her tale, Mary's desire is to reach out to others and let them know:

Being attacked or mistreated is not acceptable
Abuse is not the victim's fault
Nobody has to stay in a relationship if they are frightened
It is possible to forgive and move on

Whether you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship or you're looking for an inspiring tale to help you get through life's trials, Nine Houses is a must read for everyone.
