Nils Larsen, a Norwegian sea captain, is best known for his Norwegian Antarctic missions. Larsen was born in Sandar, Norway, and after earning his master's degree, he worked for a shipping firm before establishing himself as a well-known whaler. Nils Larsen also led many of his own ships and served as first mate on Norvegia's Antarctic missions. Norway finally succeeded in annexing Bouvet Island and Peter I Island during this research mission. Larsen stepped foot on the island for the first time.
