-` ♭ . 〔 @norsewinters 〕 ،، A FROWN FINDS ITS WAY TO HER BROWS, eyes soft with sympathy. though skadi had it worse, azha understood her pain, felt her grief. she knew that kind of loss. HER FATHER FOUGHT A LONG BATTLE WITH HIS ILLNESS AND LOST. HER BROTHER WAS FORCED TO FORESAKE HIS OWN SISTER FOR THEIR SULTANATE. the world seemed to have a meagre supply of kindness to its inhabitants. BUT UPON HEARING WHAT CAME OF LOKI, azha's lips pull into a smile. she pats skadi's hand warmly. ‘ i am glad to hear he is faring well, ’ she says, sincerity marking her words. quietude stretches between them, silence only broken by the crackle of the hearth or the teacups clinking against their saucers. azha sets hers aside, shifting to better face skadi. she brings her hands together, settled on her lap. ‘ you have been nothing but kind and welcoming to me, hatün. i . . . i told you all these years ago that i am a sultan. in a past life, i was, but that is an old name, a title i have not claimed in a very long time. ’ she draws in a breath, and it leaves as a quiet sigh. ‘ have you heard of khal rhaego? ’ she asks, gentle, testing the waters.

[ @lyrebrn ] the blonde woman's heart aches slightly and she nods, taking a long drink of her tea before speaking again. " that is true. " she admits, though she's reluctant as she says it. " i'm afraid our relationship is . . . rather complicated, " she tells her. " i did not find out the two of us shared blood until my father fell ill. the capital healer did not seem to think he would make it through the night. so he confessed to me the truth; my mother had an affair with king laufey when my father was his hand. not only was loki small and sickly when he was born, but he was a bastard. laufey knew that would cause an uproar among the people so when the battle of asgard came to be, laufey left loki in the line of fire to perish. that's when odin found him. laufey knew this but told my mother he perished anyway. my father says she died of a broken heart. he wouldn't tell me how he found out. i didn't ask. " she supposes she should feel bitter as she says it, and she used to. used to feel bitter that she was not enough for her mother, nor was her father. but now, knowing what all her younger brother had been through, she felt grief. not for her mother or their relationship, but for loki and the relationship they could have had. " i am pleased to report, however, my brother is very much alive. he is married and has twin boys now. " she smiles softly. " i am proud of him. he has come a long way from being the man who tried to take over midgard a decade ago. "

-` ♭ . 〔 @norsewinters 〕 ،، AZHA LISTENS INTENTLY, her gaze trailing the fair–haired woman as she glides across the room. and when the tray is settled and skadi is seated, her lips tug into a grateful smile. ‘ oh, please—you needn't apologise. in all truth, i have always liked stories. ’ she waits for the other woman to pick up her drink before azha follows suit, and the heat emanating from the china warms her hands most pleasantly. she takes a sip. ‘ not much, i'm afraid. i have been told of laufyson's heritage, the great lengths he went to make odin proud. it was told that he eventually spiralled, so overcome by ire and envy for his adoptive family that he attempted to usurp the throne of all the realms for himself. what came of him later, though, i do not know. some say he was banished to nilfheim, others say he perished and his body was never recovered. ’
