In 'Marigold and the Diamond Thieves', Professor Ethel Bloom is eager to share with Marigold the story of her encounter with the villainous Lady Artifice:
'The stranger then took out a notepad and pen from her jacket pocket. Marigold studied her as she wrote something on the cover. The woman handed the pad to her. Marigold read the words aloud. 'Awfully sorry. Chaos every time open mouth. Please read...'
From Chapter Fifteen: 'An Unexpected Arrival'.
Read 'Chapter Sixteen: 'The Professor's Story', to find out how Ethel's curiosity leads her into danger.
Paul Myatt is from Liverpool and lives in Manchester, UK.
After completing an MA in Screenwriting, Paul wrote several episodes of BBC TV drama, 'Doctors'.
'Marigold and the Diamond Thieves' is his first novel.
The original, and very different, Marigold story was read to seven and eight-year-olds at a primary school in Kirkby, Merseyside. Paul found their letters and drawings of the characters very inspiring.
It seems Diamond Thief, Bert, also liked their pictures - especially this one by Lynsey Burge. He's speedily swapped his portrait with Paul's profile photo! Well, as you'll read, you have to be very fast to stop Bert.
Paul developed his original story into a full-length screenplay and then adapted that script into the novel.
Paul likes spooky, gothic, history, mystery, Towers, cliff-hangers, accents, Nature's beauty, theatre and heroes who never give up - in life and in fiction. All of which can be found in this book.
Bert likes Marigold, new words and carrots.
Come on now, Bert. Put back Paul's photo.
