@puny_god (Here's the first paragraph of chapter 4)
"What do you mean you did it?" Joel's footsteps echoed as he bolted up the stairs towards the bathroom, his hand clipped against the bathroom door.
"I did the test"
Stunned at how she found the test in the washroom cupboard, he froze. As soon as those five words escaped her lips through the door , time had stood still, shaken at how those simple five words had such a heartfelt meaning- a human life possibly implanted inside of her. Then his mind lost itself in his train of thought. Baby, life, human life, responsibility, love, parenting. Pregnancy didn't seem like such a dismissive term anymore or that being pregnant was just condition where the woman would only be involved but no, his whole life shifted like a destructive plate margin clashing together and building pressure.
"What? You did the test? You mean the pregnancy test in the cupboard? The one I got you?" He tried to respond to her comment, you could hear the worry and anxiety in his voice. If you heard his Bristolian accent, you knew there was some sort of agitation going on in his mind.
Hannah- relieved at how she had one of her questions answered- subtly sighed, "Two lines."
"What does that mean?" Joel's paternal anxiety built in: never had he ever had to question what anything meant on a thirty pound pregnancy test, "I'm not MumsNet. I don't know any of this shit..."
Pushing the door forward gently with his palm, his wife's eyes glittered with pure delight; her dimples were pushed pack with a pure genuine smile lighting up the entire bathroom. Her cheeks flushed pink as she glanced up at him with her diamond eyes, "Take a look at this, then."
As he flicked open a crumpled sheet of paper with the test's instructions on, he consciously analysed every word: one line was not pregnant or that the test was faulty, two lines being...
"So you are preggers then?" he reflected her smile back with an infectious giggle of delight. (1/2)
