she  contemplated  her  options  between  telling  him  how  things  had  really  been  since  they'd  last  seen  each  other  or  shrugging  and  faking  the  same    "  i'm  okay  .  "    that  often  slipped  between  her  lips  while  being  to  ashamed  to  tell  the  truth    .               then    ,         knowing  she  trusted  bill  enough    ,         she  allowed  herself  to  say    ,                           "    i  could  be  better    .              but  also  worse    ,    "                          she  added  while  trying  to  keep  it  slightly  more  light  hearted    .

            beverly    ,         at  the  time    ,         had  been  up  the  flight  of  stairs    ,         stumbling  through  her  room  the  the  hurriedness  of  knowing  she  was  probably  keeping  the  boy  waiting    .            but  honestly    ,         she  couldn't  help  it    --    the  idea  of  spending  a  whole  day  with  bill  make  her  so  smiley  and  jittery  she  tripped  over  three  things  on  her  way  out  the  door    .             wincing  before  managing  to  silently  shut  the  door  behind  her    ,         she  slipped  out  and  down  the  metal  steps  with  her  curls  bouncing  and  cheeks  a  flustered  soft  pink    .             the  first  thing  she  did  to  greet  the  boy  was    ,         of  course    ,         a  hug  that  felt  like  sinking  into  a  warm  fluffy  blanket  after  a  cold  winter  day    .

bev  almost  jumped  a  little  before  immediately  recognizing  the  smell  and  feel  of  bill's  arms  around  her    .           she  smiled  and  wrapped  her  hands  around  his  overtop    ,          heart  rate  slowing  down  from  the  scare  of  it    .
