Sandra Newman

Sandra Newman has published two novels and four books of non-fiction. She also teaches creative writing in New York. She was born in America but also lived in England for 20 years. Her first novel, The Only Good Thing Anyone Has Ever Done, was published by Chatto & Windus in 2002 to widespread acclaim, and was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award. 

Her new novel, The Country of Ice Cream Star, features the spirited fifteen-year-old Ice Cream Star, the heroine of this mind-poppingly inventive post-apocalyptic adventure story.
