I was really excited about the Watty's starting this week. I finally have my book complete this go around. However, It's been hard to fully enjoy it. I'm sure some of you have heard in the news that 3 Soldiers were killed in Afghanistan this past Saturday by an Afghani Soldier who was supposed to be on our side. One of those Soldiers, Sergeant William Bays was one of my Soldiers before I was forced to retire. He was one of the best Soldiers I've ever had under me, and was also a good friend. I always tried to be a good leader and make sure he and my other Soldiers were successful in all situations. Bays was one that needed additional help because he was going through rough times though. I did everything I could to help better his situation and went far beyond the normal duties of a boss. But I didn't mind because he was the type of person who would do anything for anyone, no matter what it was. He eventually got his life in order, got remarried, and adopted his wife's three daughters. I'm proud of the man he became, but a part of me feels like I failed him. Maybe it's because even though I was no longer his leader, I still feel like I should have been there to protect him. But, I thought I should share his story. He was the type of guy who should be honored and idolized. You'll never see a story produced about his life on tv like when an actor dies, but he's a true hero, the kind of man people should know about.

@Tesiris Thank you. It's definitely not easy. The situation that went down is what makes it harder for me. I would be upset about it either way, but the way it happened has had my blood boiling for almost a week now. It makes me feel like suiting up, so I can go make them remember why they were happy to see me go home.

@myushen Thank you. Yeah, I'm glad he found happiness as well, but it also makes it harder. Especially since the three of them were three weeks away from going home to their families. Maybe one day I'll write a book for him. Each of our guys killed deserve to have their stories told.

@teavodelzell my heart goes out to you and all soldiers left when others are killed, the pain of losing a literal brother must be horrendous!
