Hmm, well, basically in chapter 17 the Varn's return after their hunting trip, but the vampire council has also assembled at Varnley. They have a meeting (Kaspar's POV), before going off to get ready for dinner. Meanwhile, a man... vampire called Ilta Crimson is sent to accompany Violet down. However, somehow he managesforces Violet to see parts of her dreams, as well as other things. He also tells her she has very little control of her future - that fate has taken over. But she wakes up, and does not remember anything of what he has just forced her to see. They then leave to go downstairs. 
          It isn't meant to make much sense, so confusion is inevitable =S
