Speak up (Dabi+Hawks x Reader)

chapter 1

I get up to the smell of pancakes. I'm way to tired and hungry to teleport so I drag myself out of bed. Today's the first day of my last year at UA. whoo hoo I guess. enthusiasm is tiring. I get up and change into my uniform and then I put my hair into double French braids because why not. I got time to kill. I finish getting ready and walk down stairs. "hey sweetie, I've gotta go to work. I made you pancakes since today's the first day of school. Love you" my mom said. I ate them then left.

as I made my to school, I saw a huge crowd. probably just some stuck up hero I thought. then, just because I wasn't paying attention, i tripped. the crowd's attention was then directed toward me. i felt as though i just wanted to go poof and disappear. "oh look, it's a UA student. Just the type of person I was looking for. You mind helping me out" I looked up to see a man with big red wings with his hand out to help me up. I take his hand, stand up, and brush myself off. "you mind showing me where UA is" he asked not-so timidly. You pointed to the big building atop the highest hill in the city. "guess they like to keep things subtle, don't they" he said sarcastically.

"umm.. I know I'm kinda asking a lot out of you, but could you lead me to nezu's office" he said shyly. I nodded. He then picked me up and flew us to UA. Did I feel uncomfy with this action? yes, yes I did. Was it also the fastest way to school so I didn't mind it that much? also yes.

me and the bird man walked to Nezu's office, but since it took awhile, the... well I'm running out of nicknames for him so 'bird dude' will do.

Bird dude decided to strike up a conversation... well at least tried to... "soo... you are really quiet person.. why is that? do you just not like talking or..." He questioned. I stole a few quick glances to actually get a clear look at the man walking next to me. "Got it. You're the quiet type. I respect that"

And yet I can't help but be intrigued by her The man thought to himself. She's quite the marvelous, interesting thing isn't she. I felt my face flush red as I listened to his thoughts.

I couldn't believe someone thought that I, a boring mute girl, was interesting let alone marvelous.no one's ever found me worth their time. He took a long stare at me. I glanced one last time at him and he had the expression of a confused puppy dog. I found it cute causing my face to flush an even deeper red. "aww you're flustered" Bird dude said getting in my face and poking my cheek. I crossed my arms and turn my head so he wouldn't see my face.

Once we got to Nezu's office, bird dude wished me farewell and we went our separate ways, never to see each other again...

at least that's what I thought was gonna happen...

TIME SKIPP

in the middle of class I was called to Nezu's office.... weird, but ok. I walked up to the large double doors and knocked softly. "come on in, l/n" I heard a familiar voice say. I open the door and surprise surprise. guess who's there. bird dude.

so I signed with my hands. (you're mute, ofc you know sign language) what do you need

"we were thinking that hawks could mentor you" nezu spoke. "I talked to all of your sensei's and they said that it would be good for you" what? how could it benefit me in any way? hawks' quirk isn't even remotely close to mine "well since you're mute and don't socialize a lot, you wouldn't be well known in the hero society, but with hawks being known as your mentor it's guaranteed to bump you up on the social ladder" nezu explained. I don't care about fame though "hero society relies on fame. it's what provides a sum of their income and pay. take aizawa for example... even if he chooses to step away from the spotlight, he still has quite a bit of fame, though most of his pay is from teaching, he wouldn't be in such a good financial position if it weren't for those few fans (not true, but i've got writer's block. deal with it)

"if you don't mind me interrupting, what is going on" hawks said confused. "you know that y/n is mute. well she's been using sign language to communicate through-out this conversation" nezu said. "cool"

after that, Nezu's attention turned back to you "you start interning with him in three weeks... you are dismissed" with that I walked back to my class.

thank god that was long enough to skip math

time skip

I was finally home. I walked up to my room and collapsed on my bed. then I got a message. I opened my phone and read it

elf girl: HIII EVERYONEEE

psychic queen: hi there, my beautiful wall flower bestie and nejire

shybby: thank you y/n

psychic queen: np bestie :)

sunshine boi: i was gonna ask if you guys wanted to hang out

psychic queen: kk I'm free

elf girl: samee

shybby: um yeah

psychic queen: is it ok if kai tags along

sunshine boi: ofc your bro is always wlcom
