July 2016

Hero, Blake, TJ, Lilith, and I sat around our table. We met at our spot in the park where we always meet when we must talk about serious stuff, like right now.

"You guys have to promise me." Lilith said. She is the oldest out of our group, maybe that is one of the reasons she likes to act like our mom.

"How am I supposed to make a promise if I don't know if I can keep it" mumbled TJ. He was the child of our group; he would make fun out of everything but if he has to, he can be serious too.

"What do you mean 'you don't know if you can keep that promise' ?!" Blake shouted. He is also like our child and he and TJ have been best friends way before we all became inseparable.

"Guys calm down we have enough time to talk about this." I tried to get this under control, but deep down I also just wanted to scream.

We just finished middle school and today began the summer holidays, but that's not the reason everyone was on edge. We were all going to different schools and everyone was scared that we would lose touch and find new friends.

When everyone calmed down, I felt Hero shift beside me and when I looked at him, I saw him already glancing at me. Just when I was about to ask what was wrong, he spoke up still watching me "And how exactly are we supposed to be calm when we are gonna lose touch and never talk again, huh?"

I frowned at him because now everybody was stressed again. "You are the one out of all of us that always tells us to stay positive, so why are you acting like this, huh?" I mimicked him. Out of the boys i was closest with Hero, he was the realist but also the optimist.

He was acting weird the last few weeks and I thought it was because of our last exams, but now I am wondering if it is something else.

"I just don't get why you want to make us believe something if you already know that this is probably the last time we are talking to each other!" he began to raise his voice. I flinched and scooted away from him but he didn't seem to notice because he kept going. "We all know that this is our last time here! Everyone of us has different plans for their future, so tell me how the fuck are we supposed to stay together, June?!"

I didn't like that what he just said had a hidden double meaning. Everyone looked at us because they didn't know what I knew.

I looked down at Hero's hand that was a couple inches beside mine. I tried to reach for his, but he pulled away and threw daggers at me. I furrowed my eyebrows at his response and looked back at our friends, who were looking at us with a confused expression.

"If that's the case, which I don't think it is, we have to make sure that we make the best out of these two months." I looked over to Hero but he wasn't looking at me, he wasn't looking at anything or anyone specific, he was just looking ahead while everyone agreed.
