The space between us couldn't measure up to an inch. The tip of her nose softly brushing mine; I'd be the biggest liar if I said I wasn't eager to close the distance between us right now but I couldn't. Prompting every bit of self-restrain in me, I manage to pull away, "Stop. I can't."
If there was any way to escape the silence, the awkwardness but most importantly, the pain: it would be walking away right now.
I turned on my heels in attempt to leave but the warm grasp of her hands around my wrist stopped my motion.
"Amara,"
Fuck. She never called me by my full name, never.
"Look me in the eye and tell me you don't care. Look me in the fucking eye and tell me that that kiss was nothing more than you wasted at the party."
I couldn't see her but the hurt she felt was evident in her voice and it completely shattered me. Biting down aggressively on my lower lip was the only thing keeping the tears from streaming down my face.
I couldn't bring myself to admit that I had fallen for Sofía Mark, a girl. The one thing my father, religion and ethnicity could never approve of.
