Akemi's POV
I could barely hear the frantic yells and talking. They were all muffled as rain started pouring down, scattering into the pavement. I couldn't make sense of what was going on. Were my friends safe? Why did Johan's underling betray him?
"But... Why... We only had a little more to go... A little more... And we would've reached the top..." Johan wheezed. He had blood smeared over his face.
"C'mon. Don't tell me you didn't see this coming. Or is this about the fake bank accounts?" The guy who'd attacked Johan knelt down with his hands clasped, looking smug. I was going to call him eyebrow piercing. Because he had a piercing on his eyebrow. He also had one on his nose and ears and a weird ass haircut, but his eyebrow piercing was the most prominent feature about him.
"Or... That we just stabbed you in the back? Eyebrow piercing said, much to Johan's dismay.
"Let's save our breaths. You brought this on yourself, Johan. Can't you hear them? We were better without you." Eyebrow piercing put out his cigarette in the rain, which was now pouring heavily.
"Your only weakness is that you only care about yourself. A little more... And we would've reached the top, you say? Yeah, maybe. But not us. It'd been just you alone. I didn't think things will get fucked up this bad.. I was trying to use you to get even with the Burn Knuckles." He droned on, and I watched the interaction. Johan was planning for a sneak attack. I could see it - he'd recovered, and his muscles were coiled to spring. His shocked expression was merely a facade now.
"Who would've thought the Burn Knuckles would bring the rest of the J High bastards with them? With the old boys gone, we have to surrender. There's no reason left to tag along." Eyebrow piercing knelt down to grab Johan's hand.
"You were a boxer, right? Let's make sure you never even dream about getting even with us. Smash his hand into pieces." He ordered.
"Jo... Johan!" Daniel yelled, but I could sense what was going to happen. Sure enough, Johan shot to his feet, and knocked out the guy who was about to stomp on his hand.
"Now... I see things clearly. So, Jin. You just had to use those fake bank accounts, didn't you? I can still fix this. Since I'm here... I'll just... Destroy the God Dogs... And the Burn Knuckles... And make a new crew." Johan's voice rose in confidence.
Fake bank accounts?
What exactly was this guy involved in?
And was he going to fight us? I shivered, my clothes sticking to my back. It was cold and wet, but I had to stick around to make sure my friends would stay safe. They'd done so much for me and given me so many happy memories, I couldn't leave them here to be crushed by that crazy dog boy.
"What should I do? I know I shouldn't be thinking this. I know they're all bad guys. But the bad guy I see in front of me... Looks so pitiful." Vasco confided in Jace and I as we watched a fight between Johan and his own crew play out in front of us.
Daniel was shocked as his eyes darted madly. Why was he worried for Johan, when Johan was so ready to turn on him a few minutes earlier?
"He's only getting what he deserves... Daniel." Vasco gave Daniel's shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"He's reaping the seeds... He sowed himself. In the way he knows best."
Johan may be skilled. He may be talented - but I could clearly see that the empire he'd built for himself was rising up against him. His sand castle falling under the vicious drag of the ocean, his own beast biting him.
Even if he killed that beast, there was no undoing it. He would suffer a great loss, and nothing would be the same again.
By now, the entire crew had fallen under Johan's wrath - butter to knife - until the only man left was eyebrow piercing.
"Jin. I still remember it. Back when you were the leader of a crew nobody remembers now. It was raining just like this." Johan advanced menacingly towards eyebrow piercing. The light shone from behind him, leaving him a dark silhouette against the cascading sleet.
"Yeah, it rained that way too."
An achingly familiar voice was audible, even above the rain. I could hardly believe who I was hearing.
The crowd of people parted for the newcomer, like the sea parting for Moses. Looks of fear reflected in everyone's eyes, even Johan's as he registered who had arrived.
Gun.
What was he doing?
A/N: apologies for the short chapter! I'll try to compensate with a longer one next update.
