Avaa POV

Three weeks later

"Great session guys" one of our physical therapists named Lucas commented, concluding our session.

"Yeah, you both have made amazing progress. Khalil, that arm rotation is near 85% man, you keep it up and you'll be back to 100% in no time" Nick, our other physical therapist added, praising Khalil's progress.

They were right, Khalil has been doing really well. I know he's been working double time to get back to full mobility for the babies arrival. Hell he's been working himself like a dog all around between handling the gym business, his illegal business, and trying to get back to normal for the babies coming in a few weeks, he is tired and gone all the time. Half the week I go to bed alone and feel him get in around 3 in the morning, the other half of the week when he is home for dinner- he isn't really there. He holes up in his office with Jay and a few of the security guys he's hired to stick around the house- they've spent the last three weeks trying to find RJ, Leah, and Oso to no avail because they've gone deep underground from what Khalil has told me, which isn't much.

"And Avaa, that leg is doing good. You've been putting weight on it well and I think you're ready for a boot today" Lucas said pulling me out of my thoughts and I smiled in his direction.

"Really?!"

"Yeah and we can do it here, if you want."

"Yes, that would be great" I agreed quickly.

"Ok follow me" Nick said leading me down the hall and 15 minutes later, I was free of my cast and fitted in my new boot. No more crutches I thought to myself which was relieving because I couldn't be on crutches trying to handle three newborns.

Nick led me back where Khalil and Lucas still were and I grabbed my coat so we could leave, while Khalil did the same making light conversation with Lucas and Nick. I waved goodbye to them as they exited the workout room we usually had our appointments in, leaving us to let ourselves out.

"You ready?" Khalil asked after zipping up his coat and putting on the hat I'd bought him and I just nodded my head. I reached the front exit with Khalil on my heels and pushed the door open. I took in a sharp breath as the cold air hit my face. Although it was March, it was still as cold as ever outside and the wind had been particularly strong over the last few days. I struggled to close my coat from the cold air as my belly prevented me from doing so. I beelined it for the car as quickly as I could and got in the back seat and shook off the coldness as I waited for the car to heat up. Nash, our driver pulled off once we were settled.

"What time is your appointment with Julia?" Khalil asked.

"In 20 minutes" I replied and that was the end of conversation for the rest of the ride. We hadn't had many conversations that didn't revolve around finding RJ, Leah, and Oso or the babies since I got out the hospital because he was never home anymore. I'd actually gotten so used to sleeping without him that sometimes I'll leave for the other guest room on the first floor when he gets in bed. We had taken to using one of the downstairs bedrooms since getting discharged because my broken leg made it nearly impossible for me to get up the stairs.

"We're here" Nash said and parked the car. He followed us into the building and waited in the waiting room while we walked straight to the exam room Julia was in. I hadn't been into the office ever since the accident- I did all of my work from home and saw patients via a tele-health platform as I neared my maternity leave.

"Hey y'all" Ju said greeting us with hugs, "how was physical therapy?" I got up on the exam table and laid back, while Khalil sat in the chair next to it. I was surprised when he took my hand in his because he had barely looked my way in weeks.
