Its lunchtime and you're sitting with your best friend, Alyssa. All you can hear is the loud kids at your table.
You get bored of Alyssa ranting about how much her life sucks, the usual. You roll your eyes and rest your fist on your chin.
You look up straight ahead to see a boy with brown hair staring right at you.
All you can notice is his dark clothes and his seemingly lost eyes. He looks like a lonely boy waiting to be understood.
As soon as you look up, he looks away.
Alyssa hits me on the arm. "Hellooo earth to (y/n)?" "Ouch. Sorry. I was just um... daydreaming." "Mhm. Who are ya looking at?"
She looks up straight to the boy in front of us. I can see her smirk slowly growing.
"Ahh I see. Why don't you go up to him, (y/n)?" I look up, confused. "What? No. I don't even know who he is."
She shakes her head. "Well ya seem interested in him." Alyssa looks at me focusing her eyes. "If you're not gonna go up to him I'll make ya." "What no-"
Alyssa tugs on my stretchy shirt and walks up to the boy sitting at the table.
I roll my eyes. The boy slowly pulls down his earphones looking quite confused. "H-hello?" the boy stammers.
"Hey. I'm Alyssa nice to meet ya." She pulls out her hand to shake his but he awkwardly declines.
Alyssa nudges me on the arm to say something. "Hey I'm (y/n). Whats yours?" For some reason I feel an instant connection to him. We instantly meet eyes.
"Hi I'm James.", he replied. "Hi James. Why are ya sitting here all alone? Haven't ya got any friends?", Alyssa provoked.
I roll my eyes once again. To break the silence I blurt out, "Well James if you want you could meet us after school if you like." 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘦𝘴...
"Uh.. sure." I could tell he was somewhat exited. I saw a little spark in his smile.
"Well we'll see ya after school." James blushed. I could definitely tell. 𝘏𝘦'𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘺. 𝘐 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵.
After we walk away, Alyssa looks at me. "So you really like this guy huh. You never ask people to hang out with us."
I look at her, trying not to smile. "Well I don't know I just thought he might like to have some friends around y'know."
After school Alyssa and I see James sitting alone, again listening to music.
I run up to James and sit beside him. He looks at me with a sort of a smirk.
I pull down the side of his headphones to hear what he's listening to. "Wow you got quite a taste in music." He smiles.
Alyssa finally caught up to us. "Why hello lovebirds." We both look away. "Shut up" I teased.
"Follow me guys. I have a spot." I said with a smile. Alyssa and I both hop on our bikes. "But I um don't have a bike." James uttered.
"Oh um.. You could ride on mine? Just like hold onto my waist." I insisted looking away. Without even looking at Alyssa I could tell she was smiling.
He immediately gets up and sits on my bike. He awkwardly places his hands on my waist. "Hold on tight!"
We arrived at a small building with a latter and climb up on it. It's a beautiful rooftop garden with flowers everywhere. "Wow" Alyssa and James say in unison.
I spin around while James and Alyssa look around. "How come you never brought me here?" Alyssa scoffs. "Oh I don't know its just my secret place."
We sit on the tip of the roof for what seems like forever. Dangling our feet as the sun slowly sets.
Without even realizing, I place my head on James' shoulder. My eyes half open, I see James smiling. For some weird reason, I get the feeling of butterflies around James.
"Its getting kind of late yea?" Alyssa utters. "You guys ready to go home?" "Yep." "Alright then. James, do you need a ride home?" "I think I'm good my house is pretty close."
Alyssa climbs down the latter. "I'll be right there, Alyssa." I say.
I look at James. "So... Do you have a phone number or something?" "Yea I do."
He pulls out a wrinkled piece of paper and writes it down. "Okay thanks bye James. I'll make sure to call ya". I whispered half smiling. "Bye, (y/n)."
"Come on, (y/n!)". "Coming, coming".
Alyssa and I ride off into the sunset. The soft wind blows our hair and swoops the back of my neck giving me chills.
