"Jalani! What! Jeez! I'm doing homework." She signed and talked at the same time making her nails make a clacking noise
"You ever wonder where your birth parents are? Like why did we get taken away?" He plopped on her bed with a pop-tart in hand
"Get your food out of my bed. Yes, I think about it all the time. What happened to your parents?" They all knew that something had happened to eachothers family, but none of them knew eachothers story. Their adoptive mom left that up to them for whenever they were ready
"Tell Senia to come too. We should all tell our story's. Or what we remember." Monte went to get their sister before coming back to her room and closing the door
"What do y'all want? I was in the middle of a good episode of Grey's." Senia signed. Harlem was the only deaf one, but everybody learned ASL for her sake
"Nobody cares about doctors having sex and dying. Hush chile." Monte said. "Harlem thinks we should tell eachother about our past lives before we met."
"Oh.. okay." Just thinking about what happened to her mom and dad made her want to cry. All Senia wished for was to be with her family again
"Who's gonna start?" Harlem sat her computer to the side
"Oldest to youngest. I'm not ready." Jalani broke off a piece of the Cinnamon flavored poptarts
"Ugh fine. Okay, well I don't know much considering I was just dropped off with a social worker and then mom took me in."
Tinka continued. "I know that my birth mom was a teen when she had me. Sixteen to be exact and that she was forced to give me up, so she still wanted me I guess. I know that I got my first name from a magazine article and my midde name well I looked it up and it means old, but I don't think those were my mothers intentions when she named me. I also do not know whom my father is, but I think I'm white and black." Harlem switched from speaking to signing as she talked
" Okay, go Senia. " Monte instructed
"Well um.. when I was around six or seven me, my mom, and my dad were in an airplane. We were on our way to a cruise ship boarding for spring break and this was my first plane ride. I remember that I was so excited because we were going on a Disney cruise to be exact." She paused to clear her throat
"The engine blew out and we started going down and down. The plane flipped upside down causing a lot of luggage to fall on people. I was being crushed by so many items, so I didn't really have much time to follow the instructions they tell you in the beginning of the flight. When we crashed we were all just in the plane screaming and crying. Pieces of the airplane were scattered everywhere and a lot of people had died before the medics could arrive... including my parents. I was one of ten survivors."
