PENELOPE SCOTT USED to be a normal kid.

Well, as normal as a seventeen-years-old could be, considering the world's destructive state due to the Flare pandemic.

She remembered bickering over half-empty cereal box with her sister, spending eight hours a day learning in virtual school, cooking dinner, shopping with her girl friends, eating Subway and Chinese take-outs, watching Netflix, going on a date with that boy next door, listening to her father's ramble about today's work, drawing random sketches of the world beyond what she saw in Denver...

Until her sister, Amy, kept on whining about the lack of candy stock in their house and Penny had to walk to the nearest convenience store to buy some —that was the day she was kidnapped by W.I.C.K.E.D. and woke up in a huge field of nothing but green grass with hundreds of other people.

No matter how many person she asked, they all had the same reply: "I'm sorry, I also don't know what's going on."

Less than twenty hours later, a band of teenagers barged in from one of the wall openings, got busy in their own reunion bubble, forced her to join a group of fifty, and yelled at her to run.

Just run.

Yes, that limpy blonde one did explain their situation briefly, and yes, there were a lot of explosions, weird creatures, fire, and deaths going around at that moment. But Penny's mind and body fleeted through the entire ordeal, just moving instinctively to survive, until she had her feet planted securely on the peaceful shore.

One second, she could breathe. No more smokes and banging and clanging and fallen debris. No more running (this one was very important, since she couldn't remember the last time she ran that quick and that far). No more killing machines and screams and ouch.

The next second, though, she looked over the hill, where the portal to her previous life stood. She saw two boys and a girl with leg contraption, looking over the crowd towards the beautiful sea. Then another girl appeared, and Penny saw fire. That girl... that Brenda girl burnt it. The portal.

Amy, she thought, Dad.

Penny's heart plummeted down to the pit of her stomach.

Where the fucking hell am I?
