Considering that there might be another world other than my own was one thing, but to know how far that could extend from the edges of my imagination was all too much.

I wanted to go back to the mansion. I wanted to retreat to the normality of the strange. Hearing what Miles was telling us threatened the stitches holding my already fraying sanity together.

I wanted to find Sunita and tell her that she needn't have worried and that I was coming home safe. That we could go back to studying for our A-Levels and look forward to everything that awaited us after.

And I wanted to stay with Lucas. He was the otherworldly thing rooting me to our world. He reminded me of the wonders there were right here in what I knew; that I didn't actually know everything. He gave me hope that I could belong in this unusual little place we called Earth.

And it was all threatening to come undone, in a way which meant I would never see him or my friends ever again in the Compression.
