NO MATTER HOW MANY times a snake shed its skin, it was always going to be a snake. In other words, no matter how hard Kit Dempsey tried to prove he was no longer a traitor, Camp Half-Blood would always view him as the boy who betrayed them for Kronos.

How could they not?

Kit Dempsey, son of Ares (though for six years, he was kept in the Hermes cabin even when Ares himself revealed his parentage to Percy Jackson -- he couldn't exactly move if he hadn't been claimed) used to be the camp's best fighter. He fought with his older half-sister, Clarisse, for hours on end day-after-day until he walked away victorious. But when they needed him the most, he turned his back for the enemy. For once, he wanted his dad to really see him, to be more than just that boy Ares spoke about to other demigods like he was nothing worth caring for. He wanted someone to pay for his mother's death.

He just wanted more.

And then Kronos was killed along with Luke, one of Kit's only friends (but were they ever really friends if Luke only needed him for his fighting skills?) and nobody trusted him as far as they could throw him. For four painful months, Kit lurked around camp like a shadow they just couldn't shake. Standing by what he did but knowing deep down that it was the worst decision he could've ever made, not just for himself but for every demigod that died because he raised his sword for the wrong side.

Did his mother give up her life just for him to become a killer? Kit was beginning to wonder just what he was doing with her sacrifice when he quite literally got caught up where he wasn't supposed to be.

Eight half-bloods shall answer the call. But surely Kit Dempsey of all people wasn't one of them... right?
