"Dad?", I barely get out.

He avoids my glance. "Anna?", he barely managed to get out.

I say nothing for a few minutes. I try to pull my thoughts together. For the first time in my life I am speechless. Silenced. Mute.

"How have you been?"

I guess that's a question you ask after you haven't seen your daughter since she was 5.

I stared at him for a minute, puzzled. Then I finally speak. "Well, I'm fine since you left when I was 5. Actually, things are pretty grand because my mother just died a few years ago. You didn't even bother coming to the funeral." Tears are in starting to appear in my eyes but I try to keep a strong voice.

"And yesterday I got betrayed by my best friend of 10 years. It turns out she was behind the worst day of my life."

I can't hold it anymore I let the tears ruin my makeup.

My dad-or should I say Adam, starts to talk.

"I'm sorry I left. You didn't deserve that. I'll make up for it I promise. I'll-"

"I don't want your damn money. Don't you see? I didn't want it then and I don't want it now."

"I had to. For the company, if I had stayed your grandfather wouldn't let me have it."

"Because he was ashamed! You were too! Just admit it."

"Well, your mother-"

"She was black that's why. And you had a baby and your father was ashamed."

I wipe the tears off my face with my jacket sleeve.

"Nice seeing you", I mumble.
