Translation for those who can't read the small print/cursive:

(Dearest Brigitte,

I have been informed of your sorting into Gryffindor. A fine house, it is, one I would much like to see the end of one day.

It is clear to me that you lack the wit of Ravenclaw, or the ambition of Slytherin. I am deeply disappointed in you. Was it not I who taught you the importance of bending others' will?

I have spoken to your headmaster, but he refuses to allow you to switch. You have never let me down like this in the past, Brigitte. I assume this is a one-time mistake and that will be corrected. You have not made such a mistake like this before.

I suggest you stay away from those with blood dirtied by muggles, or crossbred with other disgusting creatures. Being a Veela is a gift, unlike other animals I will not discuss.

I require your correspondence with individuals from Slytherin. Their surnames shall be listed below:

Black, Crabbe, Fawley, Goyle, Lestrange, Malfoy, Nott

This will help me with some business I am conducting. I trust that you will not let me down this time.

Be careful who you make interactions with. It would be a terrible disgrace if my daughter were caught mingling with blood traitors, muggles, and animals.

I give you my regards,

Your father)

"Who's that from?"

She blinked, her spine stiffening to what looked like a painful amount. James Potter found it amusing how quickly she reacted whenever she was in close proximity with another human being. He'd never seen someone so rigid all the time.

Brigitte could remember a time when she'd been brimming with words, laughter flowing out as easily as water from a faucet. She missed those days at Beauxbatons dearly.

Everyone said Beauxbatons was snotty, horribly refined, and aristocratic, but for Brigitte, it was all she'd ever known. It was an escape from her house, and a welcomed one. She got to be a princess there, she had friends to laugh with and boys to kiss.

Beauxbatons was just out of reach, a wisp of dreams from a faraway place.

She wanted to be able to grab it, to turn back the hands of time and bring herself back to the days when horrible rumors didn't follow her around endlessly, when she and her roommates giggled together, on a sugar high from all the French sweets, when everything was so much simpler.

She crumpled the letter up with an excessive amount of violence, so passive no one would've noticed it. "It's from nobody."

But James Potter noticed.
