After a long hour the nurse finally comes out and tells us theyve had a healthy baby boy and one of us can go in. I expect my mom to go in but she just gives me a small smile, "You know, I remember the day I had you both, you screamed every time Joey wasn't near you and you have both been so close ever since. Go on sweetie, go and see your brother and meet your nephew"
When I walk into the room Brooke is asleep and Joey is cradling the tiny baby in his arms. I lean against the doorframe and watch Joey look at this little boy with more love than I have ever seen.
“I love you more than you will ever know. I will always love and protect you.” he whispers to him and then looks around as if to check no one is listening “and I promise not to let you play with scissors until you’re at least 6”
Joey had to look after Grace once for an hour while dad was at work and mom had to take Cole and Me somewhere, Parker said he would look after then but he made Joey take care of Grace, she was only 5 and told him she wanted to play hairdressers, so like a good big brother he gave her a pair of scissors and went to play on his PlayStation. When we came home Grace had a chunk of hair missing and I thought mom was going to actually murder joey.
I can't help the chuckle that escapes me at the memory.
“yeah good shout, don’t let Grace cut his hair ever either” we both let out a soft laugh at the memory.
“how you doing dad” I asks as I give him a small smile and lean over him to look at the beautiful baby in his arms.
“I’m gonna have to get used to that, I’ve been called daddy before but different context. I didn’t like that.” he says matter of factly.
I scrunch my nose up ‘dude your gross.’
He laughs and then looks at me seriously “I can’t explain it. I love all of you guys, I have a softer spot for you because your my twin, and I love Brooke in ways I never thought I could. But I can’t even describe the love I feel for this little guy”
I give him a kiss on the cheek and place my head on his shoulder as we admire my nephew. “I’m so proud of you Joey, you’ve grew up so much these last few months and you’ve been exactly what Brooke needed when she was scared and alone.”
He gives me a kiss on the head and I tell him I'm going to leave so that every one else can meet baby Cody.

When we're home we order pizza and decide to watch a movie.
"I can't believe Joey is a dad" Nate muses.
I snort "you can't? I genuinely thought he would move back in my mom and dad forever once you flew the nest. The boy is borderline needing a carer of some description."
He laughs and then grows serious, "when are we going to tell him about us babe? I hate keeping it a secret. I want to be able to hold your hand and kiss you without it being behind these doors."
"I know I'm sorry. I just wanted to keep it as just ours for a while. As soon as everyone knows then my mom will be planning our wedding" I groan.
"I don't mind that" he gives me a smirk and a wink.
"oh really?" I ask and move closer to him and place my lips on his.
