Alex couldn't stop thinking about what would happen tonight, he was worried that Eileen would no longer be his friend once she met Jessica.

He only started talking to Jessica because he was jealous of Karl. He knew about how Karl had a small crush on her, which may or may not still be there, but Alex's crush wasn't small.

Alex felt as if he had more than a crush on Eileen, and as much as he tried to convince himself that he liked Jessica the same way, deep down he knew that wasn't true.

"Alex? Are you listening?" Jessica asked.

Alex cleared his throat. "What? Yeah!" He lied.

Jessica rolled her eyes. "Don't lie. I know when you lie." She told him.

Alex sighed. "Sorry." He mumbled.

Jessica shrugged. "Whatever. What's on your mind babe?" She asked him.

Alex shook his head. "Nothing important."

"Clearly it is, or you wouldn't be thinking about it so hard." She told him.

Alex chuckled a bit. "I guess." He said. "Just thinking about my friends, Karl, George, Sapnap, Dream, Eileen." He told her.

Jessica smiled. "Aren't I meeting them tonight?" She asked.

Alex shook his head. "Just Eileen." He corrected.

"So her opinion must matter the most?" She asked him.

Alex shrugged. "It matters." He said plainly. "I wouldn't say the most." He quickly added, although he knew that was a lie.

Jessica definitely knew something was up, and honestly felt like pressuring him but decided that she wouldn't at the moment. "Ok, well I have to go eat dinner. See you later." Alex let out a small a "bye" and Jessica hung up.

Immediately after she hung up, he went to his phone to text Eileen. It was instinct and he didn't even realize until he almost hit the send button.

He looked at the words he typed. "hey (:" was all it said. Alex shook his head and hit backspace.

It used to be so easy to talk to Eileen. Now, it felt as if they were strangers and could barely hold a conversation without fighting one another.

He missed her, but felt as if she didn't miss him. It pained him to see her happy when he decided to stop talking to her.

Alex took a deep breath and typed out the word he wanted to greet her with.
