After shutting my bedroom door and locking it, I lean against my bed frame, put my face in my hands, and take a deep breath.
Something hits my window, breaking the silence in the room. I walk over to my window and move the blind. Tate stands under my window, tossing pebbles at my window. I open the window and he points below, signaling for me to go down to the basement.
----------------------------------------------
I jog down the stairs, eager to see what Tate has planned for us this time.
"Tate?"
He comes around the corner with a big smile on his face, "Hey."
I smile and run into him, wrapping my arms around his waist, "Oh. it's been insane here. First, the cops were outside. Then some freak started banging on the door, screaming about money."
"Hey, hey," Tate pulls me back by my hips and forces me to look up at him. "Shit like that does tend to go down on Halloween. Probably just asshole kids. It's fine now. I'm here."
I give him a smile as he stands back, pulling a black rose from behind my back. I take it from his hands and run my hands over the flower.
"I painted it black. I know how you don't like normal things."
"You're the first boy to ever give me a flower," he chuckles as I look up at him. "Thank you. I love it."
"You ready to go on our date?" He asks.
"Yeah."
-------------------------------------------------------
My lips fit perfectly against Tate's as he lays on top of me on the beach. The fire glows bright and the heat from it makes the moment even more romantic. The waves crashing next to us brings a chill with it, making me want Tate's body closer to mine.
"I want to," I breathe in between kisses, grabbing Tate's jeaned bulge.
"Oh, no," he pulls back suddenly, looking down into my eyes. "Sorry."
My head falls back into the sand and I look up into the night sky, feeling embarrassed. "I thought..."
"I just... Felicity, I swear. I want to be with you so badly. And that's never happened to me, with a girl."
"Are you gay?"
"No. I just..."
I sigh and he moves off of me, sitting beside me on the sand while staring into the fire.
"Maybe it's those meds your dad gave me. They do that, you know," he explains.
I sit up beside him, looking into the fire as well, not meeting his eyes. "Yeah. I'm gonna go."
"No, no. No, Fee," he whines.
I get up and stand beside him as he pulls my hand down back towards him.
"I'm not ready to go. Not yet," he adds.
I sit back down beside him, scooting closer to him so he can wrap an arm around my shoulders.
"I used to come here when the world closed in and got so small I couldn't breathe. And I'd look out at the ocean, and I'd think, "You a douche bag. High school counts for jack shit." Kurt Cobain, Quentin Tarantino, Brando, De Niro, Pacino, all high-school dropouts. I... hated high school. So I'd come here, and I'd look out at this vast, limitless expanse. And it's like, that's your life, man. You can do anything. You can be anything. Screw high school. That's... That's just a blip in your timeline. Don't get stuck there."
