"What a bitch!"
I giggled at pop's reaction. He had flown over to Scranton to visit me, of course bringing his dog Rover with him. He was busy chasing his tail in circles whilst dad and I drank hot chocolate on the couch.
"I know right? Ever since I've met Blair she's hated me" I conversed. Dad sat there thoughtfully before taking a sip. "Maybe she feels threatened? You're a beautiful girl. Talented. Kind and generous. Anyone would be lucky to have you Y/n" he praised. I smiled as we embraced in a tight hug, he really was my best friend.
"Thanks pops. What about you? How's the love life?" I asked with a cheeky grin. His face flushed slightly red before he chuckled. "Well, I will admit I met a nice lookin' lady at swing dancing-"
"Swing dancing?" I burst out laughing. Pops had two left feet when it came to anything like that.
"Don't laugh! Your old man has got a move or two! So, I approach her and we get talking, everything is going well. Then I found out she has kids, but that didn't bother me. I'm going to meet them next weekend" he explained with the biggest smile.
Dad hadn't seen a woman since the time mom left us when I was a baby. He always was a lucky go guy but for the first time, he genuinely seemed so happy. We high fived. "Proud of you dad" I adored. "You want a refill?" He asked and I nodded.
He stood up and headed into the kitchen, leaving me to watch Rover. Although I was extremely happy for him, I somehow felt even worse than before. Was it a bad thing for your own dad to get a relationship before you?
I was lost in my own thoughts when my phone beeped. My face lit up when I saw I had a text from Bill. I read it, instantly feeling butterflies. "What's got you smiling so cheesy?" Dad asked when he came back, handing me a cup.
"Bill has invited me to a horse race next weekend. He said he wants me to be his plus one" I was trying not to sound too happy but he already knew I was ecstatic about it. "That's wonderful munchkin. Shame about that horrid fiancee of his" he commented and my smile turned to a failed frown.
"I know...I shouldn't love him dad. He's going to be married soon, probably have kids. But when I'm with him I feel so complete and I...I do. I love him" I confessed in a quiet voice. Pops gently patted my back. "Perhaps it was the right person at the wrong time. Things may seem hard now but I promise, they'll get better" he comforted.
I looked up at him, flashing a small smile.
"You mean it pops?"
He nodded with a fatherly smile. "I promise."
