"Did you find anything out?" Harry asked Elektra as the gang sat around the fire in the common room on their last night together before the winter holidays. El sank into Jada's arm on the couch, "I haven't read it yet. I'm going to study it whilst I'm at home." Harry nodded his head, understanding, whilst Jada played with El's hair lovingly. "I don't understand how you aren't tempted by it. My eyes would be glued to the pages!" El chuckled slightly, watching the fire in front of them flicker. "They will be... just not here."
"El? Matt wants to see you." Ginny lightly shouted as she walked through the portrait hole and up to her bedroom with her other roommates. El turned around suddenly, as she peered out of the closing door and saw him waiting outside of it. Smiling, she got up, excusing herself to go and see what he wanted.
Harry sunk into his chair, trying his best not to seem down. Hermione looked his way over a book that she was reading, trying to make sure he was okay, but he avoided anyone's eyes. Jada went quiet for a minute, as she smiled to herself happily. "Remember when El was awkward with boys to the point she couldn't even look them in their eyes if she had a crush?" Jada laughed to herself, "Now look at her, I'm so proud." She laughed again glancing around the room at the silence coming from the Harry, Ron and Hermione. She watched as Harry bit the inside of his lip, but she couldn't decide if he were nervous or trying not to say anything. "You were too slow Potter. As Matt said, she can't wait around forever." Ron shot his head up to Jada, "You don't have to be so insensitive." Jada scoffed, "Coming from the one who avoided Hermione like she was the bloody plague for weeks on end. Pack it up, Weasley." Hermione looked up quickly, putting her book down on her lap. "I don't want to be brought into this." She got up, taking her book with her and walked up the stairs to their room. Harry huffed slightly. "Until you're trying to fight Voldemort whilst attempting to form a relationship with the one girl you-" Harry took a breath in. "Until you finally realise how much stress I have been under, I suggest you keep your opinion to yourself, Jada." Harry sunk back into his seat, rubbing his forehead as he tried to disperse the headache that was forming somehow. "I know I shouldn't have made her wait around. I know this now! But because of how much that girl means to me, maybe it is best to let her go. If that means she finds someone else along the way, then I'll just have to suppress the torment I feel when I see her with someone that isn't me." He got up out of his chair, feeling the heartstrings pulling a bit tighter than usual.
Jada jumped up suddenly as she began to follow him, "Why don't you just tell her this? Tell her how you feel; what you've been hiding from her!" Harry snapped around, "I can't. There's obviously something going on between them both. I mean- Jada come on, look at him! I can't compete with that!"
"Where are you taking me?" El asked Matt, who was leading her by the hand around a corner of the castle. He ignored her as they went up a set of lonely spiral stairs that led to nowhere. When they reached the top of the abandoned, dead-ended corridor, he turned around and pulled her closer into his embrace. She smiled into his chest as he gently raised her chin to meet his dazzling green eyes, "I'm going to miss our little sneaking off's when we're away." El grinned slightly as her arms wrapped around his neck gently. "Well, we'll just have to make-do now then." She smirked as he leaned down to her lips and kissed her with a desire for something other than a sweet kiss goodbye. Their mouths moved with each other in a perfect rhythm, as Matt's hands linked around her lower back, drawing her closer to him. "If you ever wanted something more, you can always come to visit before our expedition to the Ministry." El laughed nervously, unsure of what he meant exactly. Was she ready for something like that? She knew what Matt was like, but would that be too soon? She felt an unnerving sense linger in her stomach as she leaned up again to kiss him for what would presumably be the last proper time in a few weeks.
The gang spent the majority of the next day travelling back to Kings Cross, London. They had arrived at the busy station late into the evening with no sign of Sirius waiting for them; not even in his dog form! They all got off the train, suitcases in hand as they said their goodbyes to each other and promises of keeping everyone up to date with any news of December 30th. Matt stopped by the side of El as Harry went with Ron to greet the rest of the Weasley's.
"Your father isn't here?" Matt asked quietly, bending down slightly so that she could hear through the rush of the station. El scanned the platform, seeing no smirking face watching her from one of the walls he may have been leaning up against. "He isn't here... nor is Remus." Matt looked around too, his eyes catching the train times on the nearest board. "My train to Kent leaves in ten. I must go." He huffed slightly, rubbing his chin. El turned to face him, "Please, don't let me keep you from getting home. I'll be fine. It's not that far away, just a few tube stops." She smiled up at him reassuringly as he looked over her shoulder at Harry. "He's not looking... can I kiss you goodbye?" El looked over her shoulder to where Harry, Hermione and Ron stood talking with Molly Weasley. She looked back to Matt and nodded her head as he leaned down to give her a gentle but sweet peck on her lips. Her cheeks flushed crimson red, from his icy cold hand gently caressing them. There was something about his touch that felt different from anyone else's. "I'll write to you." Matt said as he picked up his things and wandered off to his next train.
