finn hudson and ella bennett fell under every cliche category in the book. childhood best friends? check. next-door neighbors? check. summer fling? check, unfortunately.

ella hadn't meant to sleep with finn that summer. the two had barely spoken since they'd gotten to high school when finn had joined the football team and became friends with the guys who nailed kurt hummel's lawn furniture to his roof. they "grew apart", or at least that's what finn liked to call it. but ella knew better. she wasn't cool enough anymore. but it was fine, ella didn't care anymore. (at least that's what she tried to tell herself).

so the last thing she'd been expecting to do was hook up with finn hudson the summer before their sophomore year. maybe there had been something in her lemonade that day or maybe the heat had fried her brain, but when finn came over sometime mid-august to fix the busted rain gutter in ella's house, one thing led to another and they somehow found themselves lying awkwardly on her tiny bed half an hour later, naked under the covers.

flash forward to their first day of their sophomore year. ella hadn't heard from finn since that day and she planned to keep it that way by avoiding him at school. of course, it was hard to avoid someone when you've just been slushied right in front of them. the interaction was filled with glances and hands trying their hardest not to meet, but touching anyways, and ending with one of ella's trademark blunt comments that always seemed to bring conversations to an awkward stop and that time was no different.

after that awkward encounter, she hadn't planned on bumping into finn again. that was until he appeared at the rehearsal of the brand new glee club she had joined. throw football, an anonymous advice column in the school newspaper, an over-enthusiastic best friend, and a few slushies here and there, and you've basically got eleanor bennett's high school experience in a nutshell.

i know, i know, why the hell am i publishing another book when i already have three up that i'm struggling to update? because i'm insane, that's why. but i love this story idea. i love ella and i love finn and i'm so excited for you to see their relationship progress and blossom. i'll be publishing the playlist soon and ella's character profile thingy in my ocs book and ive already finished the first chapter i'm just doing some last minute edits. let's hope this doesn't flop lol and i swear i'm going to try and update my other books soon.

also shoutout to stberrylane , who is one of the sweetest people on here and was willing to listen to my idea for this book and give advice. i'm so thankful for you and ilysm 💗💗

updated author's note: hello!! after many long months i've finally returned to this book and i have decided to change it up a bit!! while i was trying to write the sixth chapter of this book i was also thinking ahead to where ella's story would take her and i decided that i should change her age and make her a sophomore in season one, like finn and rachel and the others. i also changed the duration of this book, instead of going up until season four, it's going to go up to season three. so yeah, i hope you guys enjoy these new changes and i would also recommend rereading the chapters, especially the first one, to see the changes i've made put into action. i hope you guys like the new and improved 'cardigan'!
