You left when we needed you

Part 15: the encouter

(Meredith POV)

It was 5:00 and my new head of neuro still hasn't showed up.

The kids were playing in my office and I was going to bring them downstairs to day care or night care. Whatever they call it at this hour.

"Okay kiddos pack up we are gonna go down to daycare mommy has an important call to make." I say to them picking up some of their toys.

I will have to clean up while on the call because the two of them may be little but they make quite the mess together.

They each grabbed a book and their iPads and threw them in their backpacks.

We walked out of the room and headed for the elevator.

"Mommy are we taking an elevator ride?" Luke asks excited.

"Yup!" I say as the doors open.

The three of us walk in and I press the down button.

We had to go down 3 floors to get to the day care.

Peacefully we are riding the elevator and it comes to a stop.

When the doors open I see a face I thought I would never see again.

"Fuck." I say aloud.

"Mama pay up." Both of the kids say putting out their tiny hands.

We had a rule that if I or Andrew swore the kids could get 50 cents.

It's not a lot of money so when it was necessary I would just swear.

I know I know it's bad to cuss in front of kids but Andrew and I have already told them that if they swear that they have to give back two dollars.

So far it has worked pretty well.

And also in this moment I really needed to swear.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out two 50 cents.

I placed one in each of their little hands and they didn't move their hands.

"Mommy you said the f word that's means you owe us  a whole dollar." Ellie speaks.

These kids really don't give in.

I took the coin out of Ellie's hand and placed it in Luke's and pulled out a dollar bill. I gave the dollar bill to Ellie and looked back up to Derek.

I was pissed but I couldn't show it in front of the kids.

"Hahah I got a whole dollar bill." Ellie says after Derek gets in.

The two of them were completely clueless that another person was in the elevator.

Luke starts chasing Ellie around trying to trade with her.

Ellie ran straight smack into dereks leg.

Luke started laughing at her cause she fell on her bottom.

Ellie starts crying because I'm guessing it hurt when she fell.

"Luke. Stop laughing at your sister." I said starting to walk over.

Before I could pick her up, Derek picked her up.

This made me so mad. I didn't want or need him in mine or the kids life.

We were fine all on our own. While he was in New York.

"Mommy!" Ellie screams while crying and starts kicking Derek.

This pulls me out of my thoughts immediately.

My girl was scared and I knew it. She didn't ever like being in a strangers arms she only liked it when family or  the not blood related family held her.
