╚════════════════════╝hyunjin practically skipped to his locker, unlocking it quickly and putting his textbooks away, taking out his teal earbuds and plugging them into his phone. he leaned against the wall of lockers, putting the 'shutting hyunjin up' playlist. he rolled his eyes at the name, he so foolishly let jeongin name their playlist. his mood changed from good to great once love on top by beyoncé started playing.
shoving his locker closed and slinging his backpack back into his shoulder, the boy walked out to the courtyard, around the field, and to the picnic benches right next to the track and under the pretty cherry trees.
hyunjin was thankful that no one came here often besides him and his friends since the cafeteria, courtyard, and library were the hotspots for lunch time and free periods. the only inconvenience was that he'd have to walk across the campus just to get to their lunch spot which honestly he didn't mind much. besides, schedule changes next trimester would put him much closer anyways.
soon, a small group of bodies came in to view. hyunjin smiled widely at his friends who seemed deep into their conversation but he was surprised to see minho and chan joining his besties— not that he minded at all, he loved having them around.
hyunjin quietly slinked behind jeongin. jisung and chan has already noticed him but both decided not to interfere with his little mischievous action. with a loud 'boo!' he pulled the smaller into a surprise hug. "good afternoon!" though, he was disappointed when all he got from jeongin was a confused expression instead of a terrified one. maybe he needed to be better at his sneakiness.
"if you thought you'd get me this time, you're fucking hilarious." jeongin said, unimpressed as he continued to scroll through his phone.
hyunjin rolled his eyes and unlatched himself from his younger friend. "aren't i your favorite clown?" the tall boy slid into the seat next to minho who was sat up on the table. "hi chan, hi minho!" he greeted the two older males with a smile. "is changbin not joining us?"
"nah, he's got to retake a test." chan explained, pulling out a sandwich from his bag.
once minho had noticed hyunjin had plopped himself down next to him, he moved himself onto the seat instead of the table. "hey," he greeted with a smile.
"hey." hyunjin smiled, the butterflies in his stomach going crazy. "got the napkin? i swear, if you lost it i'm going to knock you out." he glared at the other playfully, failing to make it look like an actual glare.
minho laughed, causing hyunjin to flush slightly, pink dusting ears and cheeks. he had such a pretty laugh. "mhm, sure thing, cupcake." he replied, his voice silvery and confident. he was more than sure that hyunjin wouldn't hurt a fly.
cupcake?! hyunjin was surely red in the face now with the cute as hell pet name. he knew for a fact that minho was one of those people who were naturally flirtatious but it didn't fail to make hyunjin's heart skip a beat. maybe it's because of the attention? he had no idea but it felt so good to be getting attention from someone that wasn't his best friends and someone he actually had a developing crush on. it was different, exciting even.
of course, hyunjin had many crushes, but this is a person that he might have a chance at. not that he had much of one in the first place, but it seemed like the guitarist wanted to get close to him and dare say interested.
but, minho wasn't getting away with that flirty response. hyunjin was easy but he didn't want to seem like it.. hah. "yeah, you're right, it'd hate to ruin such a pretty face." wow, he just said that.
it wasn't easy to fluster minho, hyunjin would have to try harder. "oh, really? i'd say i quite enjoy ruining pretty things." said minho, trying to hide his amused smirk once he glanced back up at hyunjin who was very much stunned by his retaliation... so they were officially playing the push and pull game. lord, help hwang hyunjin.
MINHO?!! WHAT THE FUCK??!
thankfully, jisung interrupted the two, oblivious of their back and forth flirting that lasted for exactly thirty seconds before hyunjin malfunctioned. "i'm getting snacks can one of you come—"
"i'll go!" the flustered boy shot up grabbing his friend's hand and pulling them to the vending machine. as soon as they rounded the corner, out of sight from the group, the taller pressed himself against the brick wall of the gym building, sinking to the ground as jisung gave him a weird look before punching numbers into the rather old vending machine.
"it's hyunjin crush season, isn't it?" said jisung, all too familiar with the boy's behavior. nothing new to him after knowing hyunijn for years.
"was it not obvious already?"
"poor minho." jisung snickered, pressing a cold bottle of apple juice to the flustered boy's cheek, receiving an eye roll as hyunjin snatched the apple juice angrily. "wow and you two only met last night."
"you will not believe what he told me."
"here we go again."
