Chris POV
The central path of the SMP was never empty. As the years had gone on, more and more travellers had come and settled into the country. Families had been started and it was a peaceful country now.
The three made their way down the historic path, the wood worn down by the thousands of footsteps over the years. Certain houses were planted on the side of the path, but most of the newer ones were off on side paths. Shops were scattered along it and the trio only had to walk for a short time before arriving in front of the bakery. It was made of light wood with pastel windows. It was surrounded by an assortment of flowers on the outside, and you could also buy flowers from the bakery. Chris thought it was strange to sell both pastries and flowers, but the owner probably had her reason.
Lily led the way through the door, making the small bell at the top ring. A woman with white fluffy hair wearing a pink apron saw the young guards, smiled and made their way over.
"Lily!" She said, reaching to hug her.
"Hi Mom."
"Chris! Pete! How are you all doing?" She went to hug both boys as well, and they obliged, smiling.
"Hi Puffy! We're doing good." Chris replied.
"How's the bakery?" Asked Pete. Puffy turned to go back behind the counter.
"Oh, it's good. Not too much going on. Chris I heard you had your first solo night patrol! How was it?"
"Pretty good! Little spooky, but I made it." Chris laughed a little.
"Did you see anyone from L'Manburg?" When Sapnap had asked him that question, it had been serious, worried about an enemy, but with Puffy it was casual, playing on hopeful. It was almost as if she wanted Chris to have seen someone. Chris just ignored it though, writing it off to her just being curious about the population trapped behind the obsidian walls.
"No I didn't. My only company was a spider hidden in the bushes." He lied. Puffy laughed but she seemed to be thinking of something else. Shaking her head a tiny bit, she started taking down their orders. Chris zoned out for a moment, thinking about Puffy's reaction. He started thinking about L'Manburg, for the second time today.
L'Manburg was once a free country, he knew that much. The citizens weren't always trapped behind those walls, they used to come into the Dream SMP. They used to be a part of the DreamSMP. Chris had learnt about it in school, about all the conflicts they had caused, how they created their own country after refusing to follow the laws of DreamSMP. They had learnt about and studied the wars in the academy, but Chris never had to think about their lives before.
And with Puffy's reaction he couldn't help but think about if there was ever friendship between the people in the DreamSMP and those in L'Manburg. What happened to those friendships after the walls went up?
Chris snapped back into focus as Puffy was handing him a lemon square and a chicken sandwich. He smiled at her and followed Pete and Lily towards a booth near the windows. They ate for a while, Lily complaining about her guard duty. She was on tower duty, so she basically had to move from the top of the tower to the bottom and watch an empty entrance.
Pete was laughing. "Lily, why did you become a guard? You knew tower duty was a thing."
"Yeahhh, I knew. But I never thought it would be so boring." Laughed Lily. Her eyes flicked over towards the window. "Oh my god." She whispered. Lily jumped out of her seat and ran to the door as another girl with curly brown hair walked in. The girl's eyes widened as Lily crashed into her with a hug.
