                                 Lilac Tree

The young boy and small girl collapsed on top of each other as they ran through the garden full of flowers and grass.

"Get off Kiari, you're too heavy." The girl said with a giggle.

"No I'm not, and I got here first."

"Lies."

The two children faced each other and smiled, basking in the heat that radiated from the sun on the warm summer day.

"What should we do today?" The boy said as he dusted himself off and proceeded to lie back on the grass next to the girl.

"Should we explore the garden more?"

"Sure." He stood up and grabbed the girl's hand, causing a small blush to coat her porcelain face.

He certainly didn't care for all the flowers and plants, but anything to see her face gleam with happiness.

They journeyed through the magnificent garden, commenting on the different things they saw.

Soon, they were deep into the garden, staring at the big tree that stood proudly in front of them.

"Woah."

"This tree is huge. How come we've never seen it before?"

"I'm not sure." The girl said as she craned her neck up at the tall tree.

"We should climb it!" The boy exclaimed, beginning to make his way up the tree.

"A-are you sure?", The girl stammered. She was afraid of heights.

A mischievous smirk made its way onto the young boy's face. Pulling himself onto the lowest branch and making sure it was sturdy enough, he stared at the girl who was still yet to move.

"You're scared of heights." He said, stating the obvious.

"Y-yeah."

"Don't worry, see? I'm perfectly fine, and we can just stay on this branch close to the ground."

"O-okay.."

"Here, I'll help you." The boy stretched out his hand to the girl who hesitantly placed hers in his.

At age 11, he was quite taller than the average, so he was able to pull up her small frame with ease.

"See? I said you'd be fine." He said as she adjusted herself to his side, scared of falling.

It was silent before an idea popped into the younger girl's head.

"We should name the tree!"

"What should we name it though?" The boy asked.

"How about the Lilac Tree? Since it has so many purple flowers."

"Sure."

"Look!" The girl whispered, pointing up at the sun that was gradually setting, making room for the moon to shine through the night.

The prettiest bluebirds, swooping down into the horizon.

And there they were, 11-year-old Kiari, and 7-year-old Rosalie, sitting in their Lilac Tree, while the sun was slowly setting. At ease, because they were kids.

They didn't have to worry about all the dangers of the world, they didn't have to worry about the future, and they didn't have to worry about anything because they were only kids.

Oh to be a kid again.

Yet little did the young boy know, that would be the last time he saw his princess for a very, long time.
